One cannot hear "oooh... hesitation" without it being followed by "costing him/her dear...":D

"Dear" isn't an adverb, Gill - *pedantry powers down.

She also uses "ready to pounce" quite a bit as well, esp. in relation to Lee Chong Wei.

^^^ She should've said "dearly", but how do you know she's not referring to her audience as her beloved "dear" audience? :p :D

    That would be extremely disturbing...

Another one of my GC favourites is the rare and sought-after "that's WILD!" after a mat-missing smash.

Say the following very up-tempo, with a hint of sibilance, volume maybe only 2 notches above a whisper, and like the words are running to catch a train that's already leaving the station; throw in a slight tone of misplaced elation, and you get...

    "ThatsOut!"
    "MissedIt!"

    This thread is still going!?!
Will it soon rival the Reiko thread in posts?
It's a shame that Ms. Clark hasn't honoured us with a comment. But of course, what would she say? We've already listed every phrase she has ever uttered!

(Hmmm.... maybe there is a market for a "Tickle-Me Gill" doll this Christmas. Poke it in the tummy and you hear "My word! Would you believe it!")

Here's a new one I've been noticing. Or I just haven't been watching her enough.

    When it's 20-20 in a game

"Extra points until there's a clear two point margin/advantage"

I was wondering if we should open some other threads for other commentators (Morten, Paul-Erik Hoyer, Ian Wright etc), but I can summarise the one for Darren Hall right here:

    "Absolutely."

Many of those male colour-commentators are so taciturn and analytical that it might be a very short thread of memorable quotes. (eg. "mmm", "yes", "good").

The colourful, but not universally praised, John Burgess has a thread of his own, already.

I do recall the gentlemen doing the English commentary for the WC2007 (LD v SDK) having some good lines:
eg. "Ahh, we are now being treated to such a rich variety of stroke-play" - who was that commentator?

Morten has lately started to come out with "dare to win". Don't know if it's a maxim of his from his coaching days, but I bet Gill nicks it for her own uses.

I was amused by "big, strong lad" and "thunders the shuttle down" in relation to Zheng Bo (but I doubt we'll ever hear those again, will we...:D).

    IN recognition of which...

And for your unswerving loyalty, unabashed enthusiasm, and undiminished admiration for the “Voice of Badminton” we are proud to honour you with the Highest Award in the form of this badge of honour. The Honour roll doth comprise (Editor’s Note: up to the present, but not limited to)

In recognition of which, the all-above-mentioned, immediately or posthumously as may the case be, stand up to receive the badge of honour awarded to you.

    I-love-gc.jpg

You may reproduce this badge as a “car sticker” or a “cuff-link” but it will also make a rather attractive pin-badge to add to any collection on your khaki satchel or carpetbag. The muted colours and two-tone effect that brings “The Famous Face” into focus in relief makes this badge of honour a candidate for “collector’s item.” You must guard this possession jealously, as it is not given lightly.

The “Voice of Badminton” will be comforted to know that the above Honours List will be refreshed regularly, and can fully expect the list to reach the figure of around 1.9 billion within a year.

    Sd,
    Your’s etc,
    Peter Guillam.

Seriously I wish GC would drop in right now and respond to this thread, I'm sure she'd get a good laugh out of reading this thread =). To be honest though it's actually weird to hear anyone else other than her now when I watch badminton.

Wouldn't it be neat if she did grace our presence. Kinda like a royal visit.

How would we address her? Your Highness? Gil?

We should put that badge on a big flag, spray a few of Gill's choicest catchphrases around it, and take it to the All England next year. I bet the camera would find it on crowd shots, and if the BC URL shows up, we could get her in here:D.

Sorry, newbie here, where is page 2? Anyway, better late than never, hope I will hear Cai correctly pronounced at the upcoming Super Series Final...

Yes, I can't imagine anyone else being the Voice of Badminton. None of the others do as good a job as her in the commentator's chair.

Page 2 of this thread I meant. But I doubt she'll pronounce it correctly... unless someone specifically points out to her that it should be a soft not hard 'C'.
