ordered myself a challenger 2 as I tick every box in the "considering your own stringing machine?" sticky.

am i OK stringing with no load spreader at 24lb mains? I think frame Max is 28, string will be 0.70 or 0.68.

my first job is hopefully 21lbs zm62 on meteor frame. preweaved it already.

I don't have many sets of string right now so hoping I get usable results in the first 3 or 4 attempts! first one would be nice, thin string was probably a bad idea.

so many questions so I how to experiment and find out for myself. I need two solid results for the 22.

    pictures to follow...

I've got one on the way tomorrow. just for you I'll never post a picture of crossed strings outside the frame.

The coloured ones are actually better than the white ones - they're thinner, so there's less interference with the top cross.

i got a white one. so far so good. 24lbs 2 piece top down with the middle crosses at 26. zm70 on a 72 hole frame. I couldn't work out how to start the already weaved crosses so I cheated and used the starting clamp.

pics to follow while I'm open to criticism :) in not saying what time I actually started...

hopefully in ok to use this a "rate my string job" thread...

I think a dedicated "rate my string job" thread would be a good idea - we've already got the "share videos of yourself playing" thread...

By the way, if you're using a starting clamp against a badminton frame I would add some padding in between.

not so much rate my string job as rate old Carlton frame ability to hold 26lb... in hind sight the titanium at 2 and 10 was probably a good indication to do bottom up. c'est la vie. 20 quid on ebay to replace it! I got down to 15th cross, 10 grommits up from the bottom. SNAP.

Have you got a digital fish scale to measure the true tension pulled? My pro pro's pioneer 2 was about 1 kg more than the scale.

no. I was going to measure the frequency versus my other two rackets around the same tension. another practice run required I think.

I couldn't remove the yellow bit to make the load spreader sit closer to the support either.

It tends to be glued - you can cut it away with a stanley knife. It's just two pegs after that to keep it aligned.

Is this line/mark/dent normal, or a classic sign of stringing without a load spreader?

The dent itself wouldn't be a major cause for concern (i dented a couple of mine before i got my loadspreaders, my machine had round metal posts and screw down mounts) but the crack going between the grommets is sounding the alarm bells for me.

If i had to guess, too tight in the mounts with too much tension. If you string it, be careful, best advise the owner that it might not survive. Some people will take the chance, others will get a new racket instead in my experience.

I don't see a crack, bit of paint missing. I'll get a closer look.

If you have a decent camera (with a macro lens is good, but whatever can get close) in good light will give you a good idea. What looks like a paint chip the naked eye can be revealed as cracked graphite with magnification.

as you found out, some machines will make a dent on the inner side of the frame without load spreader.

it is highly recommended that you get one, esp if you string for other people. no one want to see any type of dent created by their stringer, regardless of whether it matters structurally or not.

I've got no load spreaders.Does your friend(mybadmintonstore.com) carry some for eagnas stringing machines, too. Now they came with new stringing machines and I don't want to buy anything from eagnas anymore.Or,maybe I should spend my Chinese new year in HK and buy something from your friend.

MBS's coloured loadspreaders are, IMO, the best on the market, and should fit all machines that don't use a hold-down system.
