Was there something happening at Badminton Vancouver today? Because this morning the parking lot looked full from the bridge.
yes indeed Joey! I read your comments last night and called an emergency meeting. Architects, engineers and some of the best counter, mirror and bench specialists in the country I've gathered today to work on your request I can confidently say that your suggestion to have somewhere to place your hairties and hairclips will be fulfilled. Also, private dressing rooms inside the female changerooms for all you ladies. Good luck in the contest!
Haha. YAY!! We get counters for our hairties and hairclips. Another question, is the flooring almost done? There hasn't been many updates on facebook so I've been wondering. When do you think the grand opening will be?
Joey, the flooring is done. Its concrete. The walls are also concrete. There is also a roof which is also done. Grand opening will obviously be after the contest sneak peak ends later in September. Are you perhaps referring to the badminton flooring at Badminton Vancouver? Well, that has yet to be revealed. I believe it says "bio-mechanically engineered badminton flooring" on the facebook page? Its been a while since we've discussed the flooring topic here on badmintoncentral and people had lost interest. If I'm wrong about that, everyone needs to speak up and get that disucssion going again
"Bio-mechanically engineered badminton flooring" Wow. such a grand name. But yes, I was asking if the badminton flooring was done yet. How many courts will there be? I heard there will be ping pong courts too?
Ping Pong courts?? Then shouldn't it be named Badminton Ping Pong Vancouver? Psst...how about some secret rooms in the back for mahjong as well?
haha. only if a limo is provided! (refer to Kwun's post before yours) I went to Badminton Vancouver last Saturday to look around. Unfortunately it was closed so only got to drive around the outside. Oh well, bad timing on my part.
^^Bah... if you were a true badminton fanatic, you'd have peeked AND taken pictures thru the mail slot!
I don't think that interest on the flooring was lost. I assumed that people understand what you meant by "bio-mechanically engineered badminton flooring". To me, it means that you have more than just mat, pad, and concrete (like most of the other facilities), i.e. mat, pad, wood floor, suspended pads, concrete but you did mentioned that there won't be any court mats so I'm think suspended wood flooring with a layer of rubberized (whatever term you want to use) that provide absorbsion and energy-return system but I guessed it still could be over concrete (i.e poured directly over) http://www.nasftraction.com/nav/prods/xx/xxdetails.html On a separate note, I don't recalled if there were any discussions on the business model (club-membership like VRC or drop-ins/rentals like others). The other thing of interest is whether the facility will be providing organized-play like competitive ladders or this will be up to the individual groups to do so? I have been thinking of setting up a competitive doubles ladder for a while now but it is difficult as it need a core group to commit plus also the ability to "grow" when the demand is there (i.e. availability of additional courts).
"bio-mechanically engineered" was term passed on to me by the engineers. From your link: http://www.nasftraction.com/nav/prods/xx/xxdetails.html number 3 is true. Badminton Vancouver floors are being installed by one of the largest sports flooring companies in the world. Business wise, Badminton Vancouver for the time being is going to operate on a reservation/court rental model. As for organized play ladders, I'll save that for a future discussion.
Maybe you should try E-Spot if thats what you're looking for Badminton Ping Pong Vancouver? Lemme think that one over
hmmmm, I think I was there Saturday, door was probably locked though likely as it was a hard hat day.
A good guess clinton, I actually considered Robbins flooring. The company installing Badminton Vancouver floors is listed as a BWF approved flooring supplier.
The Robbins wooden floor looks really nice. the rubber style floor though, seems to be a hit-or-miss from the few places that have them here. firstly, the thickness and cushioning of the pulsatic flooring is not adequate. even places installed with 12mm they are still a bit to the hard side when installed over concrete. i frequent a couple of gym with them. one of them is ok. a bit hard, but bearable. the other place, i am not sure what thickness they have, but definitely feel much harder than the first place. i always get knee ache afterwards, so much that i cannot go there for more than one time a week, if not worse. the worse part is that this 2nd place seems to have a moisture/dust issue with the surface. nowadays even in dry summer time the surface is like an ice-skating rink. no traction at all and everyone even with proper badminton shoes are sliding around. i heard days with high humidity are worse and sometimes they have to close down the gym because it was too dangerously slippery. so definitely do not get the pulsatic surface. it will be terrible for those humid British Columbia days.
Hi Kwun, thanks for sharing. I demanded a floor which would perform well even under those conditions, wet or dry. Its also the reason I insisted on the floor to use virgin rubber rather than recyled rubber. I agree though, too hard is not good, there has to be a degree of energy return.
I've dropped a few - virgin rubber used in the floor - manufactured by one of the largest sports flooring manufacturers in the world - company is listed as a BWF approved equipment flooring supplier
