Wang Lin is one of the badminton beauties, all right, but unfortunately her second comeback after severe injury (twice) is still fraught with difficulties for almost a year since, sometimes showing glimpses of her former self only to be let down by inconsistency and lack of fitness and stamina. In the CBSL, her second encounter with Inthanon Ratchanok after the previous Thai Open again ended in defeat though she showed significant improvement but petered out in the decider towards the close when she actually went 18-17 ahead after coming from behind to level 17-all. In the ongoing CHN Masters, she was ousted by Mitani Minatsu in two straights 22-20, 21-17 in R1. Such a pity. Undesirably,Wang Lin has become a typical case of what severe injury layoff, twice for her, can do to a top player by today's higher standard of play. While it's good the bar has risen across the board, it also means no player nowadays, with the exception of LCW, can afford to lay off for several months and not face an uphill battle afterwards. Makes me wonder how Wang Xin's comeback will be like albeit her injury wasn't as serious, relatively speaking, and her previous much more severe one was many years ago when she was only 17 years old. There is this article where Wang Lin explained that the injuries sustained have left a phobia on her and are still affecting her play. In particular,she mentioned the following: 1) Finishing a match/tournament is basically not a problem now; however, 2) when engage in fast or forceful exchanges, her movement is a bit unable to cope;and 3) sometimes she sees the shuttle right in front of her but her footwork couldn't quite get to it. About the injury phobia,she expressed that she is still wary of executing strokes that might easily result in injury. As somebody pointed out correctly, Wang Lin (born Mar 30, 1989) is indeed the youngest SuperSeries winner at 17 bagging the Denmark Open SS 2008 on Oct 26 beating en route Tina Rasmussen(WR3) in SF and Zhou Mi (WR4) in the Final. She followed that up by winning the French Open SS on Nov 2, 2008 while still 17 years old, beating Lu Lan, WR1 at that time, and then Xie Xingfang,WR2, en route to the title. An excellent record.
I watched Wang Lin play in the CBSL, she still has talent. Is she still on the national team? Does she still train with the national team or play international tournaments?

The CBSL (China Badminton Super League) is a good thing as, from what I've gathered, the payout is quite attractive, and foreign players are invited too. Similarly, the Axiata Cup which offers even better payouts is a move in the right direction for South-East Asian badminton;hopefully, we might begin to see Philippines producing some results in due course.

Surprise, Wang Lin on Thurs Oct 11th in the CBSL beat Inthanon Ratchanok 21-17 and 21-16 after suffering their last two encounters in defeats. Just the impetus, I hope, that Wang Lin needed for her form to turn around from here. Jiayou!
My opinion is that Wang Lin was probably one of the most exciting natural talents to walk into the WS game in a long, long time. Plus, she had an easy, natural charisma that helped. Her physical attributes: height, strength, suppleness were all in place, but that incredible shoulder rotation she had when smashing at the top of her reach, even while moving backwards, was just breathtaking. If WL were to be at the top of her game today, I believe no one would be a consistent challenger: not WYH, not LXR or anyone else. That's why I felt, her injury was just such a disaster. If she recovers to find her pre-injury form, condition and confidence, well, watch out girls! The smiling assassin will be back with a vengeance!
The problem is injury phobia is something only she can help herself overcome,ultimately. It takes time,courage and character - not saying she is wanting in that regard. However,after watching her last CBSL match which she won against Inthanon R, I think she is improving significantly; the strokes are there, court coverage better and fewer unforced errors but in terms of speed and power still nowhere near her best. Would love to see her make a steady comeback and rise among the top albeit gradually.
