Upgrade , that means you have an old (but well loved) machine to sell:D

I have a couple on my list now and think I'll just get one. Little bit confusing with the differences between them (as it always is when you know relatively little) but getting there.

I'm calling the place tomorrow to get my money back.... fun fun fun

I think professionals do it under 25 minutes. Less than 1 hour like 50 minutes is too long, a professional can do 2 in that time.

Man, John Moore Sports in Bath (UK) want £22 including BG66 Ultimax. That's much more than I'm used to paying (London, Rudy Strings who charges £14 with any Yonex string). Anyone know any other good stringers in the local area (Bath/Bristol) that do a good job at a reasonable price?

Depend. I have major issue with how people value the string job. Let me ask the member here 2 situations here,
    1) If stringer A use crank machine and does a so so job and charge $18 with BG65 which is average for local market. Stringer B uses Yonex Protech machine and does 99% perfect job, what should stringer B charge? Would it be fare to charge $24 for B? What are you welling to pay for B's string job? What if B is pro stringer for a manufacture, what will you pay?
    2) Local stringer C charge $25 to restring with BG65 because he/she is the only badminton stringer in town and take 1 week turn around time. Another stringer D from a city 300 miles away charge $18/racquet and $7 fix shipping charge for 1 or multiple racquet. Given stringer D for sure does better job than C, which one will you use? C or D?
I have experienced issue with both 1 and 2. Often time, it is worth it to pay a little more for a better string job. Feels better and last longer.

Aside from cost, what are the criteria for a so-so/average quality string job?

I would pay a little more for better string job. Better means consistent (ie frequency), lively bed that is repulsive and feels nice, that last for a month if possible.

last time i had a string job it was $15.50USD for a set of NBG98 and $18.00USD for the labor. i couldn't string my own rackets because i was in a rush to get 4 rackets strung for the next day for a tournament. that is the most i've paid for as string job!
