Sony Dwi Kuncoro, The Conqueror of Super Dan

Even though Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei are absence on Djarum Indonesia Open Super Series Premiere (DIOSSP) 2012, doesn’t mean that the world men’s single athletes are able to be relieved. It’s because Sony Dwi Kuncoro will remain a considerable rival. In the semifinal of Thailand Terbuka GPG Tournament, Saturday (9/6) Sony succeeded defeating Super Dan (Lin Dan’s nickname-red) who placed the 2nd world rank with two games straight 21 – 17 and 21- 16.

This is the second victory for Sony in 11 games. Sony defeated Lin Dan in their first game in Malaysian Open 2003 prior to this. In the badminton tournament that still adopted Point Rally system at that time, Sony won 15 – 11 and 15 – 7. The last game they both had was three years ago in World Championship 2009. At that time, Super Dan successfully collected several titles, including Olympic Gold Medal in Beijing 2008. In Thailand Terbuka GPG final match, Sony will play against another China’s player, Chen Yuekun.

In the near future, Sony will also take roles in DIOSSP 2012 which holds from June 12 – June 17. Despite the fact that He has to struggle in the qualification first, the sweet surprise which Sony has given n Thailand Terbuka GPG will surely increase the chance to be at the highest podium in the prestigious DIOSSP 2012.

GO, Sony! DIOSSP 2012 is waiting for you!

Welcoming Dinner Introduced Indonesian Traditional Heroes

Three words to describe the success of the Welcome Dinner; Fun, Unique, and Indonesian Typical! The Ballroom of Sultan Hotel Jakartawas the venue to welcome all Djarum Indonesia Open Super Series Management 2012 participants

In the dinner, the organizer brought hospitality and Indonesian traditional theme. This is to introduce Indonesia's traditional culture. "As host, we would like to welcome all the guests with Indonesian hospitality as well as introduce Indonesian Culture.

Last year DIO players could play "Angklung", created Cock and made "Ketupat". This year is a pleasant surprise since the surprise comes out from world-wide athletes themselves.

The welcoming party was enlivened by performers such as Wannabe Dancer, Dewi Sandra and Flute show from Saung Angklung Udjo, Bandung. The welcoming dinner allowed the athletes to wear Indonesian Traditional Hero.

Total of 10 players who were seen wearing Indonesian traditional hero are: Taufik Hidayat with his Gatot Kaca costume, Tontowi ahmad with Arjuna costume, Belgian Yuhan Tan as Nakula and Christopher Adcock from England as Sadewa.

"Funny, weird but it's unique. All of us especially players from around the world learn about Indonesian culture," said Taufik Hidayat at the welcome dinner, Monday (12/6).

Not only introducing men's traditional heroes but also 5 women indonesian puppet (wayang) characters were introduced to the world.

"This is the first time I'm wearing this kind of outfit. A bit overwhelmed since it's quite cold, but I am proud to introduce Indonesian culture to the world," Gloria Emanuell Widjaja stated who that night became Kunti.

Indonesian cultures are completely new for the athletes especially those who are from Europe but that didn't reduce players' admiration like Ashwini Ponnappa from India, Kim Ha Na from South Korea and Petya Nedelcheva from Bulgaria.

"Unique and cool. I am pleased and flattered to be chosen wearing woman's traditional hero costume," said Petya Nedelcheva to
    www.djarumbadminton.com.

The warm atmosphere was truly pleasing. Although they are about to compete, the badminton heroes are still very friendly to each other even with their potential rivals
