Zyex is the name of an ICI (Imperial Chemical Company) affiliate that produces polyketone polymers. PEEK is a polyketone polymer and is not used in the Yonex ArcSaber shaft. Instead some polyethylene fiber is used. It is nothing but a high modulus (ultra) PE fiber, widely used to moor tankers.
I thought there was like a stick on it going through the center of the shaft? Thats what the pictures would have you believe.
Yonex should learn how to name polymers properly. The use of the word PEF in the ArcSaber 10 is a misuse of the name polyethylene (PE). There is no such name in polymer as PEF. It is PE fiber, just like PE resin (the raw material polyethylene resin). There is another polymer polypropylene (PP). I hope they will not use words like PPF for polypropylene fiber again. It is like using UHMGF to stand for ultra high modulus graphite fiber-there is no such conventional use of the term.
No, I happened to be involved in the PP and PE business many moons ago, and some of my customers included ICI who owns Zyex.
X-1709 Just put in this new x-1709 string last week at 24lbs, in a woven 7. Its a very nice string At first I didn't like it, but then It was really nice. Smashing was crap though. Also the tension still feels the same. Hopefully ashaway release a thinner gauge version
24lbs.? No wonder, you need to string at a tighter tension. The X1709 is designed for higher tension, heavy smashers. Try it at 32lbs.
I found smashing was rubbish at 24lbs til it loosened slightly. 32lbs. I don't think I could handle that.
They're just having a laugh, but at 1.5-2lbs above your usual tension helps a lot, if you ask me... I liked it a lot at 27-28lbs... Dinky, any news on a release date? and if there will be any pretty colours?
I don't go by the name of "dinky" but Goode sports who are the UK Ashaway distributer said september was the release date
september....boy that's just too far away Now I'm curious what they're going to do with the colours... It's not like ashaway to just release it in white I'm hoping for red, or purple (though especially red)
