"her birth was a great disappointment to her grandparents"

    That's nice.

Luckily her parents were great people.

I agree that she is smashing more. I disagree she is moving quicker to get into the smashing position. I think she is slower than before & she is smashing because she is not as good at rallying. This may be because of the injury however.

I was disappointed at the AE. I really like her play but without good footwork she cannot use her main weapons - her strokeplay. All she needs is to be more agile & fast and she can deal with anyone.

    +1 :)
Most of her smashes at the SO finals were not well directed either, possibly showing up a certain lack of confidence and a tendency to play safe. I think she really had to struggle with her performance. And this against opposition who are not supposed to be in her league, yet. Not impressive; though I so much wish it were different...

Tragically also, i watched a lot of comments from her own countrymen on youtube saying her rightful place should be in the kitchen. Also her achievements is not really recognized in her own country, populated by chauvinistic men.

Hi Pakito, Are you from India? I am quite surprised that Indian men are still so chauvinistic, when in India there was Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the first woman ever elected to lead a democracy.

In Australia, our first woman Prime Minister arrived 44 years after Indira's.

Indira Gandhi in India, Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan, Bangladesh currently has a woman prime-minister... And yet, women still get acid thrown on their faces when they cheat on their husbands in these countries. What a paradox.

Or course there are still countries that says they will disfigure you (of course they say teach her a lesson) even though you win a ms universe pageant but show off your thighs in the swimsuit competition.

She is on the good looking side as you commonly find women active in sports tend to be on the 'manly' side. I mean look at tennis players like Venus Williams! Rarely do we see women with features like Maria Sharopova (tennis), Xie Xinfang (badminton), Zhang Ning (badminton) and my favourite, Li Ling Wei (badminton).

    VOL.34 :: NO.14 :: Apr. 07, 2011

    BADMINTON / INTERVIEW/SAINA NEHWAL

    Looking ahead

Like all true champions, Saina Nehwal wants to leave behind her failures and disappointments and focus on her immediate goals: to win the Indian Open in April and perform well on the Asian circuit. By V. V. Subrahmanyam

It's not always that favourites have won the All England Championship. Even the best of players have faltered on a given day at this prestigious event, and that is exactly the reason why the All England Championship stands out from the rest of the tournaments. Well, this is how India's champion badminton player Saina Nehwal sees her failure to win the All England title this year.

    Read the entire article here:
    http://www.hinduonnet.com/tss/stories/20110407504702300.htm

    Some quotes from the interview:

“But then, you can't expect me to win three titles in a row every time. Success and failure are part of any champion's career.”

“You need a bit of luck to keep winning consistently. I am aware that I have to cut down on the negatives,”

She is good but lack of "soft touch" in her games... also lack of variety shots... instead her game is quite predictable and simple...

What features does XXF have other than a young boys body and the hairdo of a scarecrow? I think you need to watch more sports if you can only come up with those names ;) ...

Had barely if at all watched any of her matches until the recent AE but based on those I agree with that. Hard, harder, hardest ... beat it if you can :D. Only against Hirose it self destructed with who knows how many smashes into the net as a result of over-aggressiveness. Can't say I'd fault her for it ...
