viver, dont worry. we get that misbun might not be the one that invent the serve. but you must admit he made it famous by using it regularly and winning matches with it. so that is why we recognize the serve as sidek's serve. hehehehe. like a disease that have been around for years and have been researched by millions of researchers but the one researcher who wrote about it extensively and maybe even found a treatment for it, now he will get the name wont he? what matters now is we get to see the serve again. preferably by the one who made it famous.
Had a long chat with Misbun recently... as i was asking him regarding the serve, He told me it was invented from an inspiration. He also added that it took him 3 months to perfect the serve. . He also promised to show it to me again. The conversation was over dinner. So i didnt record any. Will do it soon and post it to u guys to see.
Legal S-Serve... If we can find a way to do the S-Serve only using the base, it'll become legal. Well, I have to hit the feathers first to do it. And I'm working on an S-Stroke type thing since it'll be a legal stroke. But I need practice.
...and then they'll change the rules again to ban it. Still, there are some pretty funky legal serves you can do (all involving slice).

S-serve This is how I do it. Hold the shuttlecork upside down, with thumb and another finger at the cork. Serve using backhand style. Place the shuttlecork in-front and the racket head behind, slice the feathers (as ping pong player), the shuttle will travel to your opponent side in a tornado-type of path. The path will vary if you change the speed of the slice and the angle you hold the shuttlecork. SCANN
Yeah you have to chop/slice down the shuttle it pretty hard to get the distance. You can also come across the bird which makes it tumble sideways but almost guranteed to take feather out... and I might get 1 out of five to go in.

It would really nice to know how he got the inspiration. Don't think Misbun is older than me and I learned the serve in 1978 when I met my coach. Tang XinFu showed the serve in HK invitational in 1976, wonder when Misbun got his inspiration. Strange that never saw Misbun doing the reverse spinning serve, but only from his brothers...

He taught his brothers to use it. Maybe some have used it before Misbun... but i don't think people call it Sidek serve for no reason. And its not easy to consistently serve the shuttle any target you want it to land. And i think Misbun manage to do it his own way.
Maybe it's called Sidek serve because people did not know anybody using it before. From what I have seen on TV before many time the Sidek brothers playing. What is called the Sidek serve is not much different from Tang XinFu's spiinning serve. Both coincidently have the shuttle upside down and even the motion to strike and the way the shuttle is held is very similar. I am not a professional player, far from that level, but I used to be able to consistently deliver my spinning serve. I can even tell you before I serve what spin pattern I would put in it. All learn from my coach.
