The B probably means Badminton and the G has some relation to string,
(It's tempting to think G=Gut but I wouldn't have thought so)
as their Tennis strings have TG in the code

If you're addicted to World of Warcraft, it should mean Battle Ground :D

With Yonex, I have always assumed BG expanded to Badminton Gauge and NBG expanded to Nano Badminton Gauge. (And, likewise, TG = Tennis Gauge.)

Yonex uses gauge numbers to define its strings.
For instance, the BG/NBG series = 22 Gauge.

I could also be massively wrong on these :p

Good idea. However, what about CBG-100? Cybernatural badminton gauge; it just doesn't seem to work. Cybernatural badminton gut sounds like a possible name for a string. Saying that, Nano badminton gauge sounds good.

    BG-63 is 21 gauge
but I think "gauge" is a better guess than "gut"

    edit:
and I think the N is for the Nanogy product-line rather than just nano

According to the Japanese Yonex catalogue, badminton strings are called "Badminton Gut"; and all the strings have their own names such as "Micron 65" (BG65), "Nanogy 95", etc. I think G should stand for "Gut", but "Gauge" is not bad either :p

No, I think you're right. Nanogy badminton gut sounds kind of odd. Nano-technology badminton gut sounds more of a plausible name.

I think the answer is badminton gut xD... Since the search result is more relevant than badminton gauge xD. Which is mean more badminton with gut rather than badminton with gauge xD...

FYI, with badminton gauge this thread come as a champion xD. But not with badminton gut.

What do you mean? Dinkalot said he used 29Lbs. The ideal tension varies from person to person, much like the ideal string, I don't recommend you try BG-80 at 29Lbs. Go for a tension that you like and then maybe use the guide to help you decide on a string.

I'm in the process of stringing my first racket with BG80, planning on 25lbs. Notice the packet says string 10% lower than BG65.... but given the conversations I've read about people stringing BG65 to 31lbs, I take it this isn't quite what they mean

Is BG80 thought of as a fragile string?

No mate, it's actually quite durable. What they mean is, it's a hard feeling string so to get a similar feel from it as with BG-65, you should string 2Lbs lower. The hardness is due to the coating it has.

Ahh, makes sense. Are you able to make a recommendation (if possible)? Not played with BG65 in a while but found my comfort zone with BG68Ti around 25-26lbs.

Similar tension for the BG80, or drop by 1lb?

I'd try it at your normal tension first and if it's too hard, think about trying it at lower tensions. IMO, it's not as hard as Yonex make out and you should be fine. Maybe ask Dinkalot if he used BG-80 at the same tension as the other strings.

great review, excellent for first time stringing decision making. Also great for assisting people who are wanting to try out new strings, while steering clear of clearly terrible strings.
One thing i did notice however, and probably with all your reviews was that at times your rating "Average" was not your average rating but was instead a better definition of below avg or poor (something that i determined subconsciously) since your avg rating for many things was good or good -, while you might have only had a few avg and one or two or no poor or very poors. looking at that either a) you did not bother listing too many strings not worth even touching, which is why there were less avg strings than good and excellent strings. or b) we can assume something rated avg is a little below avg from the regular string.
its not really a big issue though i suppose since when you look at a chart with 20 strings rated good and above and 3-4 strings rated avg, that the avg strings are probably not worth using (in your opinon)
