Yoo’s sudden departure leaves Kim Her in the lurch JOHOR BARU: If he was disappointed, national doubles chief coach Tan Kim Her did not show it. Instead, he was quite composed although the man – two-time Olympic silver medallist Yoo Yong-sung of South Korea – he had recommended for the job had turned his back on coaching the national men’s doubles shuttlers. Kim Her, however, admitted that the sudden departure of the Korean leaves him in urgent need of help to coach the 10 doubles pairs under his care. On Saturday, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) secretary Ng Chin Chai confirmed that Yong-sung resigned despite the national body extending his contract following the end of the six-month probation period. Yong-sung quit because he did not get the increase in salary he wanted. Yong-sung was engaged in November for one main reason – to give some Korean input to the Olympic-bound Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, who were struggling to beat South Korea’s Ko Sung-hyun-Yoo Yeon-seong. But he ended up coaching the back-up shuttlers while Kien Keat-Boon Heong finally beat the Korean pair for the first time in seven meetings at the Thomas Cup qualifying round in February under Kim Her’s guidance. Kim Her said he would get the help of women’s doubles coach Chong Kien Ling as a temporary measure. Kien Ling is an assistant to Rosman Razak and Jeremy Gan. “For now, it is only Pang (Cheh Chang) and me coaching the men’s doubles and we have a large number of players to cope with. Our focus now is on the players for the Thomas Cup Finals and Olympic Games and we have asked Kien Ling to help out,” said Kim Her. “The review of contract and salary was between the management and Yong-sung and I don’t know what went on. “Yes, we took him on to help Koo and Tan but language was a problem and he decided to focus on back-up players from the start.” Asked whether he had anyone in mind as replacement or whether he would consider former international Razif Sidek, Kim Her said: “It isn’t up to me to decide. “I can’t simply ask for Li Yongbo (of China) or anyone else to come in and take over.” The pairs under Kim Her’s purview are Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem, Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong, Chooi Kah Ming-Ow Yao Han, Nelson Heg Wei Keat-Teo Ee Yi, Mak Hee Chun-Teo Kok Siang, Vountus Indra Mawan-Mohd Lutfi Zaim Abdul Khalid, Shen Low Juan-Tan Yip Jiun, Yew Hong Kheng-Jagdish Singh, Tan Wee Tan-Sant Enos Jani and two state players under a one-month trial — Goh Jian Hao-Tan Chee Tean. Yong-sung is the second prominent coach to resign after Rexy Mainaky of Indonesia, who left last month to take up a job in the Philippines.
BAM is tightening their budget? . It looks like BAM is tightening their budget. Perhaps, BAM may not have any overseas coaches in the near future. .
OK, as usual (for BAM) something is not making sense here. If he was given a contract with a specific primary responsibility, is it possible no one in BAM at al thought about the language/communication problem? You think Yong-sung communicated with BAM perfectly well until the signing, and then suddenly, lost his ability to communicate in a language they could understand? And so, Yong-sung decided, all on his own, to focus on the back-up players! So is it safe to assume then, that the back-up players speak Korean? So, a highly-qualified international coach is signed on but no one "understands" his language so he is relegated to training the back-up players who magically understand him just fine (or hell, it doesn't matter to TKH or NCC or Bata or anyone if they understand him or not) but no one thought of employing a qualified interpreter after already having made such a strategic decision for their best OG hopes. Just what we've come to expect of BAM. A web of half-truths, untruths, and pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey games.
I don't think so. What hapened to the huge Maybank funding? And other corporate incentive-based plans?
So Maybank's sponsorship not enough eh? Instead of willing to let go prominent coaches, cutting players' bonus for slipping in the ranks, etc those so called HPT members must be willing to cut their payment too, rather than milking everything despite their incompetence and snobbish attitude. Lets start with BAM president....

it's time to hire the local one instead of foreigner... can't hire back some former/ex double players like Cheah Soon Kit, Lee Wan Wah, Razif Sidek, Chew Choon Eng, etc... Yap Kim Hock sure guarantee not going back to BAM as he's super happy with BJSS (because of AJC/WJC successes)...

Actually "it looks like" they're losing the plot. What we see from the outside is that money is not the reason; it's the fact that they probably recognise that Yong-sung can take the horses to the water, but cannot make them drink (same as Rexy) and that they are wasting their money trying for results where none are possibly coming. So, bye-bye Yong-sung. As for waiting for the people from BAM to inform us, isn't that just what TKH did? But yes, you're right; I look forward to some more enlightening information from the others in BAM!
lol how much sponsorship is enough to cover they high salary which is not paralel with their performance? even u sponsor 10 million per year,they still have some way to finish it off.hehe oh btw,they will have centralized training outside malaysia for TC and OG. what a nice moneymoon for those who going along

Tighten budget? With Maybank's sponsorship BAM actually has more budget at their disposal. Before this,BAM kept saying not enuf budget to send players to tournaments.If not mistaken, Yoo's is from BAM,not NSC. Like TKH when he first came back. With Rexy's resignation, they should hv enuf allocation from NSC side as now dont need pay Rexy's salary
Cheah Soon Kit for sure wouldnt come back. Razif Sidek is too critical of BAM of late, dont think they will ask him
Yoo is a smart guy............knowing very well KKK/TBH wont stand a chance in Olympic London, better run than stay la............. :d
