A local club describes itself as having mens, ladies, mixed and medley teams for a local league. What does the medley team mean? How does this work? You'd think a google search would reveal the answer to a simple question but nada. I understand what a swimming medley is but can't even think how the "medley" concept would apply to badminton so I'm guessing it's something completely different. TIA
From the looks of it, through google search , medley teams only play matches of 1 set/rubber set and each individual plays 2 "matches" in a different pairing. Often mixed doubles and probably depends on the league how many matches per player. Hadn't heard of it before either ...
I'd imagine it's probably similar to what our league calls "combination", which means: 3 x mens doubles (every combination of the 3 men on the team) 3 x ladies doubles (every combination of the 3 ladies on the team) 3 x mixed doubles (everyone plays 1 game of mixed doubles)
Just my guess: Let's say the medley is a best of 5. Game 1 is MS, game 2 is WS, game 3 is MD, etc. etc. That could be fun!
Yeah, we call that format the Hybrid League. Basically every player gets 1 mixed and 2 same *** games, swapping partners for each game. Pretty good format as you have to be able to switch tactics & work with different partners. Also means that it's easier to field a team as you only need 3 males/females as opposed to 6 for traditional mx/md/ld.
