Misbun: I hope Hafiz can come out of slump

PETALING JAYA: Shuttler Mohd Hafiz Hashim will find the going tough in the defence of the men's singles title in the Philippines Open, which begins tomorrow in Manila.

In the China Masters recently, the 25-year-old Hafiz suffered another blow to his morale when he went down tamely to Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana in the second round.

The poor showing does not reflect well on his chances in the World Championships, which will be held at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil from Aug 13-19.

Besides Hafiz, Malaysia have three other men's singles players in the world championships – national number one Lee Chong Wei, KLRC Bhd's Lee Tsuen Seng and Nusa Mahsuri's Mohd Roslin Hashim. All four are competing in the Philippines Open.

National coach Misbun Sidek hoped that Hafiz would snap out of his slump.
“I am concerned with Hafiz. He plays well in training but he is unable to show the same zeal in competitions. His search for a breakthrough always ends up in vain,” said Misbun.

“I can help him during the training but he is all by himself during a match. I hope he will come out of this rut in Manila.”

The eighth seeded Hafiz is expected to meet Park Sung-hwan in the third round and the South Korean is certainly a tough nut to crack.

Chong Wei is the second seed and he gave an inspiring performances in the preceding China Masters where he scored a notable win over Indonesian star Taufik Hidayat to reach the semi-finals.

In his half of the draw are China's Bao Chunlai and three Indonesians – Simon Santoso, Sony Dwi Kuncoro and Andre Kurniawan Tedjono. The top seed is China's Chen Hong.

Not necessarily Hafiz junior but Syema/Shimah junior, i.e. the wont know the gender till 6 mths along in the pregrancy. Who knows, if it's a gal, can be future national WS, WD or XD. Playing WS is different ball game from MS.

And yes Hitman71, Hafiz supposed to be moving over to KLRC aft TC, exactly when, no official announcements yet from either Hafiz or KLRC.

    Hope?

    Still got hope?

Still depend on a player like HH, a clear picture of how bad is BAM doing these recent years.

No more players in the camp that can play badminton better than HH?

It's the problem from the coach, the players or the management?

    Or probably HH got connections....

Wat's wrong with my hope on him??I juz hope he can play well in every tournament,I hope he can bounce back like Hafiz thosedays but I noe it is impossible..BAM still prefer Hafiz to stay because Mas MS is lack of seniors players..I think they have their own reason..when it's time to eliminate him fr badminton squad,he will be out n Arif will replace him..

Whats wrong if BAM ask Arif to replace HH's place now? Have to wait until what time only is consider suitable?

Putting HH in the squad means nothing.Better let the youngster to learn and experience the things.
