Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 20-Oct-2013 (A Short Report)

    .
Here is a short report for our Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 20-Oct-2013.

We thank trainees for removing themselves from our 'Booking List' when unable to attend; therefore opening up vacancies for new trainees wishing to join us.

    Reminder :
If you are unable to attend, kindly remove your name ASAP so that others can replace you, otherwise you will be fined. Why? Because there could other CCCers wishing to attend (checking to book in - up to the last hours), but finding themselves missing out after we have FULL HOUSE. And MSAC charges the court fees if we cancel our courts within 24 hours before our session starts.

At this session, we worked on the 'Overhead Clears' (listed as Chapter 6 in Post #1 of this thread). Footwork was also taught.

    Some points to remember :
    * A good 'Overhead Clear' is one that flies over your opponent's reach and lands at his/her BTL.
    * For our current CATS trainees wishing to land the shuttlecock at your opponent's BTL (from your BTL), maximum power is required.
    * The power comes from throwing your weight transfer into your shot, using your whole body action (finishing with your wrist action), timing, using the 'sweet-spot' of your racket string-bed, etc, etc...
    * To be able to land the shuttlecock at your opponent's BTL (from your BTL), do not clear too high.
    * When wishing to land the shuttlecock at your opponent's BTL from your mid-court, clear with softer controlled power.
    * The direction in which the shuttlecock travels is governed by your follow-through.
    * etc, etc, ......

If trainees are still not understanding the lesson taught, please ask me questions next session (to give you info/demo that you require).

Comments on our 5 attending trainees:
    * Chong-S is still having problems with her 'Footwork'. But when able to get into position, her 'Clears' are usually quite good.
    * Tracy-T is doing well. Most times, she is able to keep concentrating on a lower 'Maxima'.
    * Mario-P needs to have his 'Point of Impact' higher. Remember to hit with your 'elbow higher than shoulder height'.
    * Owen-L needs to lower his 'Maxima'.
    * Janice-S, being new with us, is doing OK. More 'Footwork' lessons would help.

Below, is our Spring Season membership (for Sep, Oct, Nov). So far, CCCers who have done their renewals/applicants are :
    1. Mario-P
    2. Jerry-L
    3. Timothy-T
    4. Chong-S (Membership form is required to be completed)
    5. Clement-L
    6. Dannel-Y
    7. WaiKin-Y
    8. Arun-M
    9. Nick-Y (Membership form is required to be completed)
    10. Leo-C (Membership form is required to be completed)
    11. Tracy-T
    12. Owen-L
    13. Jenny-T (Membership form is required to be completed)
    14. Ben-B (Membership form is required to be completed)

Below, I shall post our next Booking List (for Sunday 27-Oct-2013) for trainees to book in.

    RMIT exams will commence soon

    .
Sending our CCC CATS trainees Best Wishes in their coming exams.

To trainees booking their own courts to play outside our club's sessions, please take note of this info :

Badminton courts in MSAC Table Tennis hall will not be available from Sunday 27-Oct-2013 to Friday 14-Nov-2013. This is because the RMIT exams are held there.

Please note: Our CCC sessions are not affected.

Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 27-Oct-2013 (A Short Report)

    .
Here is a short report for our Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 27-Oct-2013.

We thank trainees for removing themselves from our 'Booking List' when unable to attend; therefore opening up vacancies for new trainees wishing to join us.

    Reminder :
If you are unable to attend, kindly remove your name ASAP so that others can replace you, otherwise you will be fined. Why? At this session, we worked on the 'weaker' strokes for each trainee. Footwork was also taught.

    Some points to remember :
    * A good 'Clear' (underarm or overhead) is one that flies over your opponent's reach and lands at his/her BTL.
    * For the 'Overhead Clear', our current CATS trainees wishing to land the shuttlecock at your opponent's BTL (from your BTL), maximum power is required.
    * A good 'Dropshot' or 'Netplay' is one that lands at your opponent's FC.
    * A better 'Dropshot' is one that travels flat.
    * A better 'Netplay' is one that has 'MAXIMA' on your side of the net.
    * The 'Longest Reach' footwork principle is best for all 'Netplay' and 'Lift' strokes.
    * etc, etc, ......

If trainees are still not understanding the lesson taught, please ask me questions next session (to give you info/demo that you require).

Comments on our 4 attending trainees:
    * Chong-S is still having problems with her 'Footwork'. But when able to get into position, her shots are usually quite good.
    * Timothy-T is doing well. Most times, he is able to concentrate on lessons taught. However, 'softer' strokes like 'Low Service' and 'Dropshot' are requiring more drills.
    * Owen-L needs to lower his 'Maxima' when doing his 'Overhead Clear'. More power is also required.
    * Janice-S is doing OK. More 'Footwork' lessons would help. A 'Low Service' lesson is also required for her.

Below, is our Spring Season membership (for Sep, Oct, Nov). So far, CCCers who have done their renewals/applicants are :

CBA (Melbourne) League : 2014 Autumn Season

    .
Received email from CBA (BaddyGary). It is about our next season's matches.

Email is copied and pasted below:

    ================================================

I have requested 4 courts for Monday and Wednesday evenings and 5 courts for Tuesday and Thursday evenings --- I have no indication as to what number of courts we shall be allocated.... and have no idea just how many teams will enter the various competitions.

At least the bottom (or possibly the bottom 2) teams of the Monday night competition (A2 grade) will be asked to play in the Tthursday night competition with the top 1 (or two) teams from Thursday being moved up.

You must enter a minimum of 2 player - and a maximum of 3 players - for each team.... one team per sheet.....
If you enter 3 players it is assumed that the 3 players will rotate week to week -- and you are required to use the player rostered off as the first emergency player for your team.... the rostered off player cannot fillin for another team if your team is playing.

If we still have 10 teams we may need to run the same format as this season. -- A 10 team/12 week draw followed by 2 5 team/5 week draws and if enough Tuesdays a final between the 2 top teams.....If we only have 8 or 9 teams we can play them on 4 courts..... if we get 5 courts (as requested) we can cater for 10 teams -- though the 18 weeks required for 2 rounds may be a little longer than the number of weeks we have available.

Please fill in the attached form (you can type into it using Word) and send it back to me -- I will need you to give me the information about team members as we will be changing the software used to record results sometime in the next 6 months and I want to ensure I have correct information.

Teams using this form will be given preference over teams that do not return the form.

    ================================================

I would like to reply to BaddyGary.
