What in earth is with this guys technique!!!

And yes, from early on it's clear that when he's stuck in his rear corner, he can only play back to the net, so your base should be moved a step forward ready to take the shuttle nice and early, he seems to always lift after you play a net shot, so generally if you were to play him again, after playing a net shot, move back as soon as the shuttle falls quite low under the net, allowing you to play either a smash, or attacking clear to his forehand corner, and then move in ready to kill the shuttle...

I think people being a bit harsh on lukas i like his movemtn it seems focused and not lazy. i think he's one of the better players to post on this thread in my non expert opinion. he seems alert and not easily beaten by standard shots like so many other players, i would include myself as a player aswell. pros do bounce probably less because they can judge larger steps better.

They don't bounce because they can time the split-step so well. Although I agree, Lukas is amongst the better players posting here. Although I'd like to play a match against him - I like my chances :D

And yeah, LD, you made me look. Douche. :p

That guy's technique is ironically probably one of the things that gave you trouble because you're not used to seeing it. In some ways it gives him an element of disguise/surprise whatever you want to consider it in this case. However he messes up on a lot of overheads simply because of the distance he takes his racket back and ends up hitting the shuttle late.

One interesting thing I noticed is that he never played one single backhand overhead, not one. He always managed to play the overhead in the backhand corner with his footwork (which was ok). It's kind of a shame, with his weird forehand technique I was really curious to see what his backhand overhead looked like lol. He managed to get to your backhand plenty of times though. Luckily for you your backhand is very strong and is not a very big weakness for you when you play a guy like that.

I think the match was frustrating for you mainly because of the fact you mentioned you were overconfident and that you are used to playing guys with better (and similar technique). I guess that's why we play new opponents and are forced to adapt.

But you pulled the match out by exploiting the weakness in his smash defense which was very effective. Nice job!

Thank you :) I totally agree - you never see someone hit like that, so predicting it becomes near impossible :D

The opponent wasn't strong enough to test you from the rearcourt. However, your low serves gave him a chance to hit your rearcourt corners more easily. Your backhand flick serves just dont go high enough so it was easy for him to cut them out before getting to the rearcourt plus he was able to hit through them. You should consider using a forehand high serve against opponents that dont have a scarey attack! This would limit the amount of time you get turned around.

not sure how divisions are setup where you play but considering your opponent gave you a pretty good fight, wouldn't playing 3-5 divisions higher mean you'll lose almost all your matches?
Personally, I like playing against people with weird unpredictable technique because it tests my footwork and preparation, which is necessary if I wanna move up in ranking.

Sometimes the difference between divisions can be very small, maybe only 5% improvement per division, but doesn't mean that a player in division D can't beat one in division B just cause they are in a lower division.

@j4ckie, how come Germany have so many divisions, there's is only like 1 division here :(

Haha, I think the German setup is the same as here but probably even bigger. We have a regional competition level with several divisions/levels each subdivided in a treestructure with promotion and relegation, including youth teams this region has 411 teams entered this season over 6-7 divisions/levels. From the highest regional division you can promote to the national competition which again has 5 divisions also subdivided in a treestructure (grouped by region/location), this has 254 teams entered in total. All in all you're probably looking at at least 2000 teams nationwide playing league each week for the first half of the season.

Actually I'm more of a Doubles specialist, with the speed around court being a big weakness. I can cover a good portion of the net without moving at all, and my doubles movement is better than my singles movement.
Anyhow, my biggest weakness is that I have problems motivating myself against weak players such as this. I have never lost a game against this guy, and I was not really in danger of losing one here - so I skimmed by with little effort. Also, I was feeling a bit tired as I had not eaten enough - a constant problem for me. At 6"2 and 180lbs I have to eat quite a bit if I want to have the energy for a good training session or 2 matches (I recorded the other MD and MS match as well - the MD was a slaughter and the MS I only have 6 minutes of because the memory chip was full - but it was a clear affair and kinda boring to watch).

Regarding the league/division system - I'm not sure about the proper terminology here. We have the divisions A, B, C for official ranking tournaments and championships (with me playing B in U22 and now, O19 as well), and for recreational tournaments, they can add more to make the differences smaller.
Then we have league play, where you compete as part of a team - of those, we have lots more. They start with 2 National leagues (Bundesliga), and the lowest are the (low) regional leagues.

I was referring to leagues - currently, I play in a team competing in a mid or low regional league. Other teams in my club play in high regional, low state, mid state and low national leagues. When I mentioned me playing (training) 3-5 divisions higher, I meant 3-5 leagues which would mean a low state level (Verbandsklasse) in Lower Saxony up to high state level (all of Lower Saxony and Bremen).
All in all, there are 13 leagues - my current level of play in Men's Doubles is around 6-8 (Mid or Low state), for Mixed Doubles and Singles, I'm not sure. Probably 7-9 for XD and 8-10 for MS. Kinda hard to say as you have 3 MS in every team and 2 MD.

    Hope I didn't bore y'all to death :D

Season like in football/soccer - pretty much one year's competition in leagues. Season translates to Saison in German :)

:) High 5 for being the same height and weight (+/-5lbs) as me, I wonder if I have a long lost relative in Germany:p

Took me a while of thinking but here is me playing
    I'm the boy/person in red T-shirt.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFmZq1go3Fk

I know the mistakes I have made in this video but from the date of that video till now I've changed how I play and my court coverage is better. (a proved by one of my coaches). I'll record another when I have time.
Backhands was an issue but I've had time to practice my backhand the day I recorded this video I was trying out a new technique.

    comments would be nice.
