    can't agree more ;)

    i think the sentence is not complete, we should add something like a time frame or period :D

    maybe:
    ''he is the best ms players during the era of lcw, pg, cj, bcl and th even thought he never was the world number 1 during that time''
    this is what i gonna tell my kids when he grows up:D

    We cannot conclude that LD is the best

    .
    That's correct; We cannot conclude that LD is the best MS Badminton player in human history.

    We can only state something like;
    LD won w AE titles
    RH won x AE titles
    FHF smashed at y speed
    TBH smashed at z speed
    etc......

    The thread opener could have put a question for us to answer, say, something like;
    Is Lin Dan the best MS baddy player in human history?
    .

    So in Rudy era, who do you think would be the best? I heard of Thing and Hou from my older friends when I grew up in MAS but they never compete, Rudy won 8 AEs, 1WCand countless TC. Back then there are no Opens and the best countries are MAS and DEN, no KOR, No Jap and of course no CHN.

    Today badminton players are professional, during Rudy's time players had second job, they picked up their own shuttles, wooden rackets, etc. etc., we are talking different eras and really, I would not disrespect for what Rudy had achieved. Ae was then the inaugural WC, and Rudy did it 8 times. Back then Rudy was the best and nobody could defeat him during his 8 years of reign. If you say LD today could smack Rudy of the past, then Rudy could easily smack the Wong Peng Soon, On Chong Teik, and all the legends of the game who played 10 years or more before Rudy's time. If you compare eras past to current era, there will be endless comparison, try comparing say, 100m champion of 10 years ago vrs champion runners say 30 years ago, they were get thrashed.

    Very fair statements uncle OTB.:)

    Yup agreed.
    Or shall we add in the word "arguably". That sound more debatable.

    Thats exactly what i meant and i was not trying to say that LD is better than RH at all. Perhaps I should say we cant compare RH and LD, the words were illustration that its foolish to do so. And we can only compare based on recorded achievements, nothing more.

    not perhaps, we should not. rudy in his prime time won 8 ae titles in 9 years and still members want to compare, unbelievable!

    as for lin dan no one should doubt he is the best player at the moment even though occasionally he lost now and then, he's just awesome!

    but i don't like him very much accept his play

    It can be argued LD is the best simply because he is able to learn from the past eg from predecessors and take advantage

    of technology today, which was not available in the past. Its like saying Ford cars today are better than Ford cars that first came out.

    In case some of you are unaware, Indonesia had in the past always kept Rudy only for important tournaments and never allowed him to play Tang and Hou, and there was suspicion of throwing games by team members to allow Rudy to maintain his aura.I have no objections to this, its just that people like to criticise China today for such practices.
    Anyway, in the past whenever Rudy was beaten it was rare and front page news! Among players who have succeeded are Denmark's Sven Pri, Sweden" Sweden's Sture Johnson,compatriot Muljadi,Martin Dew even suspected that Christian Hadinata was even better, but was moved to doubles to facilitate Rudy" dominance. Its all old crap now, but interesting data.
