Right handed and find the challenge against left and right handed layers about the same although I have a couple of left handed bunnies I play against ;)

I'm hopeless with my left hand

i play mostly with my left, but can oftentimes hit with my right hand (drives, drops and smashes) when there's time to switch hands.

i've been playing badminton since 2006 with three lefties on a regular basis. people say we look unusual when they see us all "lefties" (as they call us) play in the court. :)

haven't undergone any training, though, so i'm the least skilled of all.

i write right-handed, can play basketball, volleyball, tennis and table tennis with either hand.

Yours is a different situation. You can play with your right hand. So if I may say, the probability of hitting each other's racket is less than those full-time lefties. Another theory ... because you're way taller than me, that is, if the birdie is headed towards the middle, you can hit the shuttle even before I could reach it. :D Besides, you're way too good to clash racket with me. It would be embarassing on my part to clash with the MASTER AMBI (ie, ambidextrous).

Wow! Most people who could use either side are genius! I bet you are.

no, i'm not a genius. and i think you have more brain cells working than me. you can READ players and know where it's best to return the shuttlecock. i can't do that :)

nice insight on why we do not clash rackets (re height difference).

still can't serve with my right, though :(

not sheer genius, definitely not. probably fast reaction combined with quick movement.

you can't read players? oh c'mon.

    LH Advantage

How much of advantage is it being lefthanded do lefties win more often? - e.g. under pressure people can tend to hit in areas that they are used to - ie to right handers backhand but which is forehand to lefties. :)

Its so ennoying when someone can use both hands. My coach can use both hands , and do a full court clear , and jump smash with both of them. But says it takes too long in matches too change.:D

Just a question: On the poll, what do I pick if I can use both hands just as well? My right hand has more power, and my left has more control... I'm lost for now.

    Another ambidextrous. Cool!
You can choose both, I guess. Then again, your votes would just cancel each other out. :D

So you can have the option of not voting at all.

I don't want to take away from your ambidextrous skills, but isn't it pretty useless in badminton?
I mean that in the nicest way possible.

It is, and I feel like focusing on one hand. However, I have no idea whether power or control is more important.

This is what I thought at first. But after playing with 88raymond, I found out that it could also be efficient. When I first played with him, I kept on directing the shuttle towards his backhand. But then, after several trials, I got confused because he doesn't seem to have a backhand. Later did I realize that he doesn't have any. He's mainly left handed but he can switch the racket to his right quickly and smash just as strong. It's really unbelievable because he could also adjust his footwork instantaneously. It's pretty amazing.

    Backhand Clear

Hm... I guess that means I should still attempt to use both. Do you mean something like if I have a weak backhand clear, I should play it as a forehand? The problem is, would that take too long?

One of my coaches can use both hands whilst playing badminton , and clear with both hands , but he said that it takes too long switching :D

The switch should be quick. Mainly, 88raymond could only switch to his right (he's dominantly left handed) during clears from the opponent to his backhand side (i.e, his right side). But if it's a fast drive, a good attacking clear, a tight drop shot, or a body shot smash, he couldn't switch the racket. (This is usually the tactic I use against him ;).) His switching is just a backup ... sort of a resort so as not to use his overhead backhand.

eh.. looks like dere r ambidextrous players like me around as well
I m mainly right handed but sumtimes switch 2 my left hand for certain shots

    my handedness in life:
    50% left, 50% right(writing, drawing)

and btw, if you hold your racquet in front of you with 1 hand n the other hand closeby, its possible to quickly switch at will
However, my left hand has got a small skin growth which is hampering my lefty moves.. gonna get it removed this yr
