Hey there.. My coach told me not to do push ups since its bad for the shoulder when playing.. anyone want to comment about this?
If you have oversized shoulders that might reduce the range of motion but apart from that push ups are fine.
i experienced that i feel some sort of a uncomfortable in playing whenever i do push ups before playing.
Push-ups have been one of the key exercises in my recovery from a serious shoulder injury. Of course, it's possible to develop a muscle imbalance. Don't just do push-ups; do tricep-dips as well. You don't want to develop massive differences in strength between "front" and "back" muscles.
When you do the bench press do not use heavy weights use 30lbs and try to do around 100 reps. work up to it
Doing bench is fine. Nothing wrong with getting stronger. Honestly, if you can't bench press your own body weight you are pretty weak.
Push ups are not bad for Badminton . Push ups bad for Badminton? crimson_eyes13 ... Are you serious about this? If you are, we would like to hear from you the reason why your coach told you so. And from it, I am sure many comments will be made in this thread. But if you ask a simple question, "Are push ups bad for Badminton?", you will get a simple answer ... "No". .
Problem with Bench press is that it works only one group of muscles and does not promote trunk stability because you're lying on the bench. When you do bench press, you have to do other exercises to balance the development. Most people concentrate on bench press alone and increasing weight resistance to the absurb, leading them to future rotator cuff injuries. Push up is preferable because not only are you training your arms, you're also strengthening your core muscles to support your bodyweight.
I think push up is not that good and not that bad.. I believe badminton require you to be agile not strong.. you exercise with heavy equipment its bad, and exercise with light equipment but faster it good. So if you feel push up is very heavy than its bad for you, but if you could do fast push up it should be good for you.
+1 Even more pertinent is the fact that you pin your shoulder blades down on the bench, which keeps them from moving freely during the movement. This means that once your shoulder stabilizing muscles fail, the bench holds them in place so you can keep training. This then results in you developing strength in excess of your ability to position your scapula (shoulder blade) properly. Overuse injury eventually results from this.
Maybe your coach ment pushups before your game might overstress your shoulders amd affect your game. Any training is better then no training, i'm sure doing pushups when your not in the court at home is better then not doing any at all. You are much more likely to injure your shoulder doing the benchpress then doing push ups, unless you are using really light weights. I think pushups should really only be done after the training included in some part of the pt. As to strengthening the arms and body head to the gym, make sure you use perfect form even if you cannot do much weight to make sure you do not injure yourself. Those people that injure themselves doing the benchpress are probably those stick thin guys doing half-reps with weights they are not ready to lift.
Moderation helps. 10-20 times per shot should be ok. Overall physique training is important. Balance it. Power, stamina and speed.
