Despite a request from BAM to BAC to replace Ganga as Malaysia's representative in the recently concluded Badminton Asia Confederation AGM, Ganga was still re-appointed as head of development of BAC.
The reason BAC gave for rejecting BAM's request was that the request did not meet the stipulated 2-weeks' notice, as required by the BAC constitution.
So you see, two can play the same game.

I think there is too much discussion on politics. Many decisions made are more political and involve hidden hands more than meets the eye or can be read from newspapers. It involves seeing the big picture and hidden agendas.
When you trace back the history of some people in the fracas, you will see the political connection. Some of the judgments passed here are naive to say the least, because they are devoid of the full picture and looking at things at a micro viewpoint.

People exposed to all these crap day to day and involved with the BAM (as mentioned lots here) will understand. It is not good taste to make judgments and pass sentence when we do not have first hand knowledge and hear only one side of a story.
Luckily nowadays younger Malaysians are more discerning and able to think and make up their own minds and not so easily influenced by rhetoric or statements not based on facts or actual first hand experience.

No reason is given for the sacking because termination is not dependent on justification, unfair it may appear to be.

Now isn't that a bit heavy handed and lacking in transparency?
Laws are designed to promote justice as mentioned by Chris, otherwise they are just draconian rules.

In the Commonwealth legal system laws are governed by mother laws such as the country's constitution or Acts passed in Parliment such as the Employment Act or Industrial Relations Act.
In other words bodies making their own private laws that run afoul of the principles and spirit of the mother laws will be doing something illegal and actions will be declarted null and void.
When this happens the courts will interpret what is written and whether there is contravention in particular actions and make judgments.
In other words, it doesn't mean one can write "unfair" or unjust terms in private organisations and enforce them as they will be overruled.
There are enough lawyers here in this forum, what is mentioned above are facts.
Unless a country is run by some kind of Mafia, then it is alright to undermine the judicial system.

The press reported that the president undertook an investigation after some Executive Council members of the BAM, sponsors, and individuals complained about some serious indiscretions by the secretary.
As a result the rest is his famous "I appointed Ganga Rao as secreatary while he was a junior officer, and I did not give any reason. So I guess I 'll live to that". This was sometimes misunderstood as an insult to Ganga. From his words I think what he wanted to convey was that when he appointed Ganga as secreatary while he was just a junior officer (possibly raising come eye-brows for bypassing other more senior candidates) without giving any reason for his choice then, so it was to be the same for his removal.

Well there are laws in Malaysia and if any one is aggrieved by being sacked from his job, he can always seek redress.
Let us wait and see what happens. It is just round 1. You think there will be round 2?

The BAM president is away again to Washington this time for the entrepreneurship summit to be hosted by president Barack Obama this coming monday/tuesday.
Maybe he is multi-tasking too much given his health.

    1992 can happen again

We were never really the favourites in 1992 as China were power packed but when Rashid (Sidek) beat Zhao Jianhua in the semis, everything started to happen for us. We are in the same boat this time and the players must be inspired by the 1992 squad," said Misbun during the mental training camp in Port Dickson yesterday.

"We have two solid chances in the first singles and first doubles and we must win them as this will motivate the others to battle hard to bring us success.

"Back then, the squad were together for some time and were consistent in their performance. Malaysia had regularly beaten Indonesia since 1988 and we had met China in the 1988 and 1990 finals before beating them two years later.
"Our current squad have been together over the last two Thomas Cups and we have the experience. The players must remain positive and it can be achieved.

"We are looking at a scenario where we may have to beat South Korea, China and Indonesia to win and there is always a fighting chance, especially when we are playing at home.

"As Rashid turned it on for us against China, we can also expect something special if Chong Wei can do the same in the first singles."

National doubles chief coach Rexy Mainaky is also optimistic that Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Zakry Latif-Fairuzizuan Tazari will provide the solidity to help Malaysia get through.

Rexy's bigger concern is the potential quarter-final against South Korea and this is where he wants his combinations to produce their best to give the team a psychological boost.

"The South Korea match, should it happen, will be tough as the quarter-final stage is always tough. Once we clear that, the players will be more relaxed and against China, there is nothing to lose," said Rexy.

"The Koreans will be banking on the doubles and we must try to win there. A good start from Chong Wei will put the pressure on them and we can count on him."

It is good for Malaysia to have a dream-to repeat another 1992 feat.
If all turns out well, there will many rich Malaysian players and coaches, to be rewarded with cash, presidential bonuses from the BAM president, land, more datukships, etc. The states from where the players hail from will also want to show their generosity. The prizes will be significantly richer than 1992's.
But it will be a headache for BAM to find the money for the rewards. Awarding titles like datukships is simpler than raising cash and buying land for the winners.
Do you know how much will LCW earn, that is if the dream comes true?

Of course not! Many Malaysians especially the younger set are looking forward to the day when people here can severe the link between politics and business and politics and sports, symptomatic of a 3rd world country. Then there will be a fairy tale ending.
It is an embaressment to us, especially to those of the younger generation.

Don't throw in the towel yet because anything can happen to turn the tide.
Remember when Punch Gunalan sacked Ganga Rao years back, only to turn out later that Ganga was back and Punch was removed?
    What goes around comes around.
Of course politics is the mother of everything. Without it, we will not have country, lawyers, democracy, sports, sad tales, fairy tales, 1st world country, 3rd world country, even your job or business, etc, etc.
We curse it when we are at the wrong end of the stick; praise it when we benefit.
That tells us why we are very human, each one sees the same thing differently; in one word we are quite subjective.

Shuttlers finally receive their RM2mil in bonuses

    http://thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2010/4/26/sports/6130974&sec=sports

Doubles shuttler Koo Kien Keat said that the payout was timely.
“The players are very happy that all the money has been paid. We are delighted to receive the bank statements from our president today,” he said.
“For me, the money owed was from 2007.
“It’s a big relief and there will be no more headache for me as far as my finances are concerned.
“Players would be happy if the BAM can pay on time in future to avoid unnecessary stress on us.
“This payout will certainly be a great encouragement for all the players ahead of the Thomas Cup Finals. There will not be outside pressure or distraction. This will certainly motivate us to continue with our efforts to regain the Cup.”

“We could not pay out the money earlier because the association did not have enough cash flow and lacked sponsors,” said Nadzmi.
“But I had considered it as a good problem because it showed that more players had done better to enjoy our incentives over the two years.
“The government’s aid came in at the right time. Our Prime Minister wanted to solve this problem so that the players could give full concentration to the Thomas-Uber Cup Finals. I hope that they will be able to give undivided attention on the task ahead.”
“The BAM will look into this. The success of players are also due to the support staff and we may look into introducing an incentive scheme for coaches next,” he said.

Wouldn't it be good if people in this world could stop meddling in the affairs
of other countries, even though it arises from people long out of touch with the home nation.A good practice would be to produce and article and open it for discussion (instead of jumping to conclusions and making biased opinions and the like), just like Loh in his Singapore column. Also personal opinions and views should be distinguised from facts and hidden agendas make unhidden.

    My justification is this:

    1) Unfounded statements, opinions, personal worldviews may carry misconceptions and influence which must be refuted as the whole world has access to it, you only have to google the key word and you'll be surprised at the result.
    2) Statements with political implications can be imflammatory and be best left to politicians and rabble rousers.Malaysia ia a maturing society and enjoys a high literacy rate, people can make their own decisions. We are now working hard to further develop this status quo, we are no longer the Msia of our grandads.Continuing a discussion on politically sensitive issues can lead to opening a can of worms, its like stripping yourself naked and letting the world see all your warts.Even the Malays have a saying,"splash or disturb the water in the basin and drench yourself. " We are trying to mature, please don't be a sadist by creating more discourse.
It is bad taste to interfere in the affirs of other countries, and also of a home country from miles and years ago.

It is no different from say people crying liberate Tibet, return to Tian Ann Men etc what really is their agenda?

If the message is still not clear, I give up. Please continue your rantings.
Or set up your own blog, then you can say whatever you like.

BAM’s high-tech training centre close to fruition

“The government has finally given us a new land. Work will start on building our own training centre. This was decided during the executive meeting on Friday,” said Nadzmi.

On why the BAM did not make early preparations to book the stadium, Nadzmi said: “There is always room for improvement. We will look into this.”
On whether there would be drastic changes in the BAM as far as office bearers are concerned after the Finals, Nadzmi said: “There will be a lot of changes. There will be a need to review and make changes if we want to make continuous improvement.”

    Thomas Cup: Team feeling recharged

We managed to get the local police authority to help out on this programme where our instruction was for the players to not forget their ICs. Some forgot and this is a simple lesson on how important is to follow team instructions be it during tournaments or matches," explained Fred.

"The army obstacles training today (yesterday) was more physical while we also had late programme at midnight on Saturday where players were stationed alone on a hill for about an hour to battle fear.

"They compete in individual events and they are now working as a unit so it is important they maintain the spirit all the way."

National singles coach Misbun Sidek said that the camp, which ended yesterday, has made Lee Chong Wei more relaxed despite the pressure on him to deliver in every match.

"Chong Wei was tense but he is now relaxed. He has accepted the captain's role and knows he needs to give Malaysia a winning start in all matches.

He has accepted the responsibility and is very positive," said Misbun.

"This team have been together for the last two Thomas Cup campaigns and team spirit is good. I feel that everyone looks ready to share responsibilities."

Singles chief coach Rashid Sidek is satisfied with the commitment showed by the players and feels the simulation match at Putra Stadium on Wednesday at 6pm will give them the chance to test themselves in a match situation. We are hoping for the fans to make it more lively."

"All the programmes were pre-planned and the players have responded positively. They must maintain the team spirit throughout the tournament and stay united," said Rashid.

"We will announce the sides later."

Malaysian shuttlers get to keep all their tournaments earnings, which is not the case with Indonesia and China.
On top of that BAM also rewards players who deliver, in the form of presidential bonuses, incentive bonuses (LCW gets most of these), and monthly allowances.
Cash inflow in a timely manner becomes a real problem. If LCW keeps his no 1 world ranking for another 2 years, followed by KKK/TBH, then this will become a real headache for the president. He may get another heart attack!.
Can this go on forever? Huge cash incentives for performance is good but there must be a balance between giving all the cash to a few select high-performance players, who are not going to be on the scene forever, and the massive amount of money need for building the future of Malaysian badminton. How about building a proper badminton hall in even the smallest town, village, running monthly village or small town tournaments, a nation wide as well as a cluster of related towns badminton leagues for various ages, grades, etc?
