(The cone could indeed use an update though and in pic 1 picture a goldish DC logo as well, maybe the champagne gold of the ARC10PG) And just imagine the black as woven :p. The original gold would be a good combo as well, it's the black that killed the combo of the original in hindsight :D (since this gold grey combo works for TC700 as well).

    ... and @demolidor's B takes the gold. I'd still use the tiny-logo cone from Sketchy's B, though;)

    Nice :)

Maybe you could slip Taufik a revelation prototype (of course painted like a Z-Slash :) ) for the ultimate field-test :)

    Cheers,

It's a definite "no" to champagne gold. As much as I love champagne gold, it only works in low-contrast designs, with lighter colors - eg. on the ARC10PG.
To be honest, the color I used isn't really quite what I'm picturing in my head, but drawing realistic metallics is really hard :(

Also, it's black at the top and bottom of the frame because the actual woven material used on the frame contains a lot of much lighter kevlar strands, so the name text and DC logo would be very hard to make out. Plus the T-joint area may look pretty ugly unpainted. Plus it just looks better black - more "balanced". :p
The shaft doesn't need to be black because there's no kevlar or titanium - only carbon - so it provides a darker and more uniform background.
Incidentally, the black paint would likely be the same slightly sparkly black as used on the TPro, rather than just plain glossy black.

No sure what champagne gold is officialy called but perhaps more in the likes of this "old gold" here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_(color)#Old_gold Used by the New Orleans Saints and a few college team all in black/old gold combo; or the Vegas gold right above it, also used by teams in combination with black or navy :)
Obviously the above ones I did are just Frankensteins of your originals. Maybe you can render one in which gold replaces the dark grey but I guess that's venturing into TPro land again(?) ...

How about something dark blueish icw something gold :D?

    Awesome work, Sketchy.
Woven does look very pretty on it's own on the head. But you are right that it is less elegant at the T.
Hope you are being well compensated by Ailuropoda melanoleuca. (Are you designing the purported shirts, too?)

No flat black would be interesting but probably not possible with the clear coat.Wonder if you could do a flame design ;)

You mean when Alan cheers and screams for a player? For instance, Alan yells "Satta...WHOOOO?!??!?!" And we reply/YELL... "SATA...WHAT?!??!?!!?" (Re: Sattawat Pongnairat, US MS Player)

And speaking of AlanK (and KevinY), they are speed demons on those ES5ProTech machines...which are a dream to use.

Marc is using ARC7 new version/color i think.

wow. so most players have switched to VT80?

235 is crazy. just for the first day. 3 stringers will take 80 each.

Marc uses the Arc7....for 35/37, he breaks impressively few strings :D
I wouldn't have thought the NBG95 was so popular....personally, I hate it, and several others in my club agree with that sentiment...but perhaps it gets better at high tensions^^ (I only had 27-28lbs)

Yes, Sattawat is a very good stringer and one of the top U.S. Single's Players (as you know).

Yes, Panda is using the lone ES5Pro, a great machine.

Amazing Marc doesn't break strings. Panda would be worried about the racket breaking, not strings.

Panda is thinking about redoing the String Review because different strings may play different at different tensions.

For instance, BG65 and NBG95 are great strings at 30lbs. or higher. But lower tensions, for Panda, they are just so-so.
Thin strings play great at 20-28lbs. but as you get higher, they start to die-off for power. So it's all relative.

Do you have to charge the non-Yonex players? :D

Zwiebler should be using the white ARC7 btw ... (ah I see I was a page behind ;))

Agreed. I find the BG65Ti and ZM70 to be quite enjoyable at 28+, whereas the ZM67 gets worse for me from 28 up. Really thin strings (ZM62, AP62) are not advisable at 27+....I broke my last 4 of them on slightly mishit drives :D

It isn't not just a matter of the best feel for the pros, it is mostly a matter of not having to restring every 12 minutes :), so durability is most often the key factor when choosing strings..

I am also curious, is there any players supplying their own strings, or does everyone use strings provided by the organizers?

Errrr Sir, your reply to me didn't make sense but yes, durability is many or most times a factor.

Yonex is one of the main sponsors of the U.S. Open so the string and stringing is free to players, coaches, "affiliates" using Yonex rackets. The first priority is getting the rackets strung for players who have matches coming up.

No one has supplied their own strings so far...why would you when it's free? :D

Players who are sponsored by other manufacturers need to pay but not sure how much.

Fascinating description of a tournament from stringers' point of view.
Dan, perhaps you could share some video of the set up and perspective from where you are. A behind-the-scenes look at the atmosphere of a big tournament would be interesting to those of us light-years away from the stars. :)
