They did well by sticking to their plan in attacking Bach, who is the weaker one. When they play against the Taiwan pair tomorrow they'll need to concentrate on attacking Lee, who has been of late the weaker one.
A decent performance despite 2nd round exit. Ah How not really at best form, unfortunately. The 3 service errors really cost them the match/2nd game.
1st game : Zakry should have kill the shuttle in the final points. 2nd game : Service cost them the match. Overall : Not good enough for a medal even if they won tonight and tomorrow.
still no chance to watch the match but as I feared, they blew it away... i dont read on the score that much as a defeat means a defeat...no point to argue... i think the fate of Ah How and Zakry rest at the hand of Rexy.... whatever the outcome, i hope Ah How can continue to play good badminton for few more years...
Wednesday August 10, 2011 Zakry and Thien How crash out to Taiwanese in second round The Star STOCKY doubles shuttlers Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Hoon Thien How walked out of the court at the Wembley Arena with their tails between their legs yesterday. The duo’s campaign in the World Badminton Championships came to a grinding halt after they suffered a painful 24-26, 19-21 defeat to 10th seeds Fang Chieh-min-Lee Sheng-mu of Taiwan in the second round. And their excuse was: poor finishing and sloppy service. Just a day earlier they had knocked out former world champions Tony Gunawan-Howard Bach of the United States in the opening round. Zakry was disheartened with the manner they lost. “It was so close between us. In fact, we were leading in both the games but we just could not finish them off. This is disheartening,” lamented Zakry. Zakry-Thien How were involved in a close fight with the Taiwanese from the start but managed to take a 20-18 lead in the opening game. Instead of pressing home, they allowed Chieh-min-Sheng-mu to get back into the game. And the Taiwanese grabbed the lifeline and went on to win it 26-24. The match took a similar pattern in the second game, with the Malaysians looking good to force a decider after taking a 19-16 lead. Then, Zakry sent the shuttle into the net. And Thien How followed suit. “We were quite nervous at that stage after our blunders at the net. The Taiwanese then caught us offguard with two flicked serves. It completely messed up the rhythm of our game,” said Zakry. “Both pairs are of equal standard but they took their chances well.” Zakry-Thien How had beaten the Taiwanese pair en route to reaching the quarter-finals of the All-England in March. Debutant Thien How said: “It’s disappointing to lose a close match but we tried our best. I have learnt that we cannot afford to make the slightest mistakes at this level.” With the defeat of Zakry-Thien How, Malaysia are now left with only fourth seeds Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong to challenge for honours in the men’s doubles event. Chan Peng Soon-Lim Khim Wah had crashed out to Poland’s Adam Cwalina-Michal Logosz 13-21, 19-21 in the first round on Monday.
I would give them more credit than that, because I didn't have super high expectations of them... Considering that they decidedly took out the 17th ranked Gunawan/Bach pair and lost to the 10th seed Lee/Fang pair in two very tight games, I think Rexy would be reasonably happy with them... although of course it would've been better for them to have gone further into the QF's.
Badminton: Zakry-Thien How crash out 2011/08/10 Vijesh Rai rai@nst.com.my ZAKRY Abdul Latif-Hoon Thien How failed to produce their best and it cost them dearly as they were bundled out of the World Championships by Taiwan's Fang Chieh Min-Lee Sheng Mu at the Wembley Arena yesterday. Hopes were high that Zakry-Thien How would enjoy an extended run in the men's doubles following the withdrawal of former Indonesian world champions Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan but the Malaysians failed to repeat their All England triumph over the Taiwanese fourth seeds, who won 26-24, 21-19. "We just couldn't seem to finish despite having the opportunities to do so on a number of occasions," said Zakry. It was a tight battle in both games as the lead changed hands constantly, with both pairs saving game points a number of times in the first game. However, the Taiwanese pair showed better composure towards the end of the first game to deservingly win 26-24. The second was also a tight affair but Zakry-Thien How looked set to force a decider when they led 19-17. However, unforced errors saw the Taiwanese draw level before sealing a place in the third round. "We served into the net when leading 19-17 and that cost us as the opponents just took control after that. It is a disappointing way to exit but we tried our best to seal a place in the third round," said Thien How. Zakry-Thien's exit now leaves Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong as the last Malaysians standing in the men's doubles following the first round defeat of Chan Peng Soon-Lim Khim Wah to Adam Cwalina-Michal Logosz late on Monday. The Polish pair won 21-13, 21-19. Kien Keat-Boon Heong, initially scheduled to play yesterday, face China's Liu Xiaolong-Qiu Zihan today after having drawn a first round bye. Meanwhile, mixed doubles Ong Jien Guo-Chong Sook Chin beat Taiwan's Liao Min Chun-Chen Hsiao Huan 21-18, 21-16 Also in action today will be women's doubles Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui, who beat Jenny Wallwork-Gabrielle White of England 21-14, 21-12 in a late first round match on Monday. They will play Japanese fourth seeds Mizuki Fujii-Reika Kakiiwad. Malaysians involved in late matches yesterday were women's doubles Ng Hui Lin-Ng Hui Ern who played 15th seeds Matsutomo Misaki-Ayaka Takahashi of Japan while mixed doubles Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying played England's Nathan Roberston-Jenny Wallwork in second round matches. Two factors: Nerves and experience... HTH-Zakry should learn an important lesson of keeping their cool during crucial stages of the match. Instead of slam boom-bang of finishing the match, probably they should a towelling out, change shuttle..buying time to keep their nerves in check. Both of them might have been playing in the circuit for some time, but recently ( with eight 1st round exits) they have not played so many high pressure matches with above average players. I think Zakry was exceptionally skilful in front, and HTH even on his off day, had some good attacking techniques. Improvement seen, they should build on that especially on the mental part of the game.
Agree, Ah How's play could set up for Ah Heong to kill off the points. Zakry, no doubt, crafty but does not possess a telling smash, otherwise they would have won yesterday's first game. As for KKK, he can look for another partner.
kkk either can pair up with former partner ong soon hock or any junior player like ow yao han and chan peng soon... Or else kkk would have to play only in mixed double, pair up with pei thy or ee hui...
