Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC: 15-Dec-2013 (It's a 23°C day for Footwork)

Our cricketers in the Perth Test will be playing today at 38°C. Incredible.

For our CATS tomorrow, Sunday 15-Dec-2013, it's going to be 23°C. It's a good day to train our Footwork again.

I posted in another thread ( http://www.badmintoncentral.com/for...p-Happy-2014-New-Year-Greetings-to-all-BCers-!!! ) that players with good Footwork (like dancers) train themselves to:
* maintain good balance as they move.
* keep count of movements required to be taken.
* focus on their weight transfers as they move in any direction.
* concentrate on breathing correctly as they move.
* etc, etc, ......

We shall go through all these points.

Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 15-Dec-2013 (A Short Report)

Here is a short report for our Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 15-Dec-2013.

We thank trainees for removing themselves from our 'Booking List' when unable to attend; therefore opening up vacancies for new trainees wishing to join us.

Reminder :
If you are unable to attend, kindly remove your name ASAP so that others can replace you, otherwise you will be fined. Why? Because there could other CCCers wishing to attend (checking to book in - up to the last hours), but finding themselves missing out after we have FULL HOUSE. And MSAC charges the court fees if we cancel our courts within 24 hours before our session starts.

At this session, welcomed 1 new trainee;
* Nick-Y (from our Wednesday Night CCC Social Games session)
Hope that he had enjoyed our CATS.

Don't know what happened to;
* Janice-S
* Leo-C
* Caroline-G
* Caroline's friend
No news from them; And they didn't turn up.

But, it was great to see Jing-L again, when she turned up unexpectedly.

For this CATS, we worked on "Footwork". Points discussed were;
* how to maintain good balance.
* to keep count of movements required to be taken.
* to focus on our weight transfers (not on steps).
* etc, etc, ......

What we missed out was - How to breath in/out as we move. Please remind me to cover this topic in our next CATS.

Trainees are now to begin ALL drills with these 2 strokes :-
(1) the "Low Service", and
(2) the "Net Return"
and then, continue with the other strokes of their set drills. We need to train more on these first 2 strokes in a rally.

For our newer trainees, they might not know that our CCC CATS conducts a program which takes around half-a-year to complete. This is to cover all topics mentioned in Post #1, namely;

13 Holding the Shot – (with Deceptions)
14 Level Doubles – (Players' Positions)
15 Level Doubles – (Court Zones)
16 Level Doubles – (Match Tactics)
17 Mixed Doubles – (Players' Positions & Court Zones)
18 Mixed Doubles – (Match Tactics)
19 Singles – (Court Zones & Match Tactics)
20 OH Backhand Dropshot & Clear

Some points to remember when training on "Footwork" :
* Count your "Transfer of weight" taken, not your steps taken.
* We are working on "efficiency of movements", not just on the "order of steps".
* Each "Transfer of weight" movement takes time. You could have taken some movements, without even taking any steps. We want to eliminate these "unnecessary movements".
* If requiring to move your left foot first, your weight should be on your right foot (and vice versa).
* etc, etc, ......

If trainees are still not understanding the lesson taught, please ask me questions next session (to give you info/demo that you require).

Comments on our 4 attending trainees:
* Timothy-T's forward movements are excellent. Backward movements are OK. It's time to work on more side-ward movements (especially to execute his "Side Drives").
* Jing-L needs more work for her backward movements. Balance with non-racket arm needs taraining.
* Mohamed-S needs to count his movements after each stroke. Returning to base quickly is a problem.
* Nick-Y, being new, is doing OK for his first lesson. Well Done.
