I have read in this forum that mostly the balance point is determine as below: <280m headlight 280 - 300 balanced >300 head heavy (some ppl use 290-295) For example if I have a Head Heavy racket with a 310mm balance point. If I put come lead tape on the handle/grip and bring down the balance point to 290 does this mean that I will be using a Even Balance point racket now? Theory wise it seem to make sense but what about in real life situation?
some will say yes, some will say no. I have a maths and physics background up to PhD and I say no. Some will swear by their experience, but I have never noticed rackets being easier to swing when adding extra grips to rackets (an extra 5-10g!) Putting weight on the handle will not affect how the racket plays because you are not changing the swing weight (moment of inertia) of the racket. Putting extra weight on the racket handle must be equivalent to adding mass to your hand - e.g. wearing rings. This is not going to make the racket any easier to swing. It will not make your racket feel medium balance if it is currently head heavy.
Technically, it has transformed into a "balanced" racket but the head weight is still there. IMO, you can only increase the head weight rather than decreasing it but what we can do is add weight to the grip that will definitely change the feeling of the racket. Not to mention that the head heaviness is still there, but the feel of the racket might change. Just my 2cents haha
It is quite funny how I read here over and over again "it doesn't make a difference" whilst in tennis (and squash) it is a generally accepted practice and people can make a living out of it ...
IMO you transform your hh racket into a really overall heavy even racket on paper. The swing mass will be the same so you don't change your racket.
, yes I didn't read the question properly ... but now you're on and at it anyway: thoughts on http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=313137
