You people should really see LCW getting the datukship in the context of current Malaysian politic. BN government is doing a epic by election with opposition de facto leader Anmwar Ibrahim in Permatang Pauh soon. This by election is too important to BN government as Anwar claim he want to topple the BN government in September. So BN is making LCW as a symbol of national achievement under the leadership of BN government. Didn't you guys see national newspaper Sin Chew Jik Poh reported both BN and opposition were organising various event to celebrate LCW success in getting the OG silver medal? Both side tried very hard to "associate" LCW's victory with them? It is just part of political strategy and propaganda.

BN is smart enough to know that giving rewards and honour to LCW will please the chinese community in Permatang Pauh. Just part of their tactics to swing the Chinese votes to BN.

It is no big deal. So what if one is called datuk??

I am proud of LCW achievement and think that LCW should be handsomely rewarded but to get a datukship now? I think it is too early. Don' thinlk it is a good idea. LCW and Misbun just announce they will foucs on next achievement which are Asian Game and Next Oplympic didn't they?I think it is not too late to give LCW datukship when he win gold medal in these events or even next World championship.

Yeah. That's why Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock only got runner up in Olympic 1996 and World Championship 1997. They were too spoilt:)

Errrrrr, we DO know, I did say it's one-upmanship - "you give, I also give, I show I can give more, etc". I think Msian BCers know abt the connection to the by-election, cannot talk abt politics in BC mah, so we dont mention so directly.;)

Oh yeah, the Berita Harian sports journalist took pot shots at all these ppl trying to get free ride on LCW's achievement. He said where were they when LCW was struggling in 2006 & 2007, when LCW was severely critised ?

And according to what I heard, Guang Ming Daily reported that LCW is :mad: he's being used as political mileage. He said dont use him to pull votes over in Penang.
Sthing abt LCW being "kidnapped", flown to Penang in private plane instead of the commercial flight which he already bought ticket for. tsk tsk, starting to sound like some thriller series.
The guy had just finished battling in OG on Sunday, flew back to Msia early Monday morning. Then, Tuesday had to go see the Prime Minister, Wed had to fly back hometown, dont get rest also.

VChing, Vching, cool down, LCW is not happy abt it either, & he said so. Misbun was there, in private he would have gave those ppl a piece of his mind too.
LCW just came back, they arranged all the activities already, dont judge too fast ;)

There are only less than 4 days left in the Beijing Olympics. How many medals have Malaysia won? When was the last time Malaysia won any Olympics medal? A datukship is actually small change.;)

Mind you, this is not the first time he is doing it. He campaigned politically in Gopeng in the March Elections. Koo/Tan were also campaigning politically after their AE07 title.

Anyway, my article which is also a letter to the editor of Malaysiakini:

    Barisan Nasional’s silver medal

errrr, got some more story, but better you ask those who can read chinese. THe "kidnapping" at airport was featured in Chinese press only, sounds like some movie.

And.... side note, Sports Minister announced they will give RM50,000 to Misbun as appreciation of his hard work in training LCW & to assist Misbun financially for his wife's dialysis. Misbun's wife has failed kidneys - both kidneys, has to undergo dialysis 3 X a week.

Misbun looked a bit teary when reporters asked for his comments.

Rightly said.I hope LCW and Misbun are smart enough to know that politicians are opportunist and they should keep far distant with them.
