PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles coach Jeremy Gan is targeting at least one title for his top pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying (pic) this year if they are to keep up their steady progress. Peng Soon-Liu Ying had a fine run in the Malaysia Open, taking out world No. 5 Chen Hung-ling-Chen Wen-hsing en route to reaching the semi-finals for the first time on home soil. But they were outclassed by world No. 1 Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei in the last four, falling to a tame 13-21, 16-21 defeat. GLY was really uncomfortable and irritated in Sgor Open, if she doesnt rest to heal then going to GER GP is a waste of time in my opinion. CPS was definitely influenced by his partner bad mood during their match against LCW/Vivian. Their coach should realize that this is dangerous as her back injury may get worse..
Congrats to Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying to enter AE semifinal for the 1st time (premier event), and 2nd semifinal appearance this year (1st time in homeland Malaysia SS)...
Firstly, credit for getting into the next round. But the job is by no means completed. 2 more matches to go to win the AE. GLY is really quite the player. I may be overstating this, but in terms of all the female mixed doubles players, she is really probably only behind the majestic duo of Ma Jin and Liliyana Natsir. Not even Zhao Yunlei, Ha Jung Eun has the sort of presence that GLY does. She seems to have nerves of steel and plays with so much attacking flair. The two Danish girls also have their strengths, but they don't come close to GLY. Which brings me back to CPS. He seems a bit more sharp at AE than at MAS Open, and movement on court is a bit smoother. He can smash hard, but I think he needs to make them count a bit more. Few times he was smashing, and then the opponents managed to counter-attack. Maybe he needs some advice from Fu Haifeng or Jung Jae-Sung. This pair needs to cut down on the unforced errors. They could have beaten Adcock/Bankier in 2 games. Frankly, I felt that GLY/CPS should have directed more attacks at Adcock rather thank Bankier. I also think they should vary their game a bit more. Seems quite one-dimensional. Should they play against opponents who change tactics in the game, they may not be able to cope as well. Needs more input from Rexy. Anyway, it's very easy for me to say all of this from the comfort of my couch at home! Go GLY/CPS!!! Malaysia is indeed proud and behind you two all the way!!
