Hey Guys,

I have been stringing for a while now (3+ Years). I thought I would share some of the rackets I recently did.

I used to work at a Sportchek, where the tech taught me how to string. After, I started to develop my own ways of stringing. The fastest I ever strung a badminton racket was roughly 28 minutes (Average about 35 mins).

Lucky for me, the Sportchek where I worked moved and got a new machine. In turn, I was able to take their old one and just string at home.

I use a Prince Neos 1000 with MBS flying clamps to do all my stringing jobs.

Heres a few images of the rackets I did recently:

Neat! And for sharing.

The tails in your last picture, pointing every which way. Is it just me that doesn't like that?

It was the result of the way I used to tie off. I went through about 4 different ways of tying, then I finally found a weird way that works very well.

No, it irritates me something fierce. I use the AK knot with a half hitch afterwards, and my tails always sit against the frame and don't pull in, even after months of use.

My other peeve is cross overs outside the frame, at shared grommets. If possible if a cross string goes under or over the main at one shared grommet, then i like it to do the same at the next.

I also don't like the cross overs outside the frame, I prefer them to sit on the same side i.e. over or under the string on the shared grommet, not actually sure if there is any difference in overall string job with the cross overs

Is the AK Knot with a half hitch not really bulky even though the tail sits against the frame?

I currently just use a starting clamp and then tie off after using a finishing knot

I always go under, for two reasons:

a) if you always go under (or over), you'll never make a mistake,
b) almost all machines pull slightly downwards, and going under means the cross won't pulled down against the mains loop.

If I see three "equals signs" at the top of the racket, I consider it a good string job:).

It's tiny, but it doesn't slip. The Extra half hitch if it's pulled tight (i rock both the AK and the half hitch) locks it in really well. I also use a starting clamp on the outside of the frame, so i can use a finishing knot on all 4 as opposed to 3 and a starting knot.

Some pics of the AK with a hitch...

What is the AK Knot? Is it the same as my Toshi Knot? =)

Any difference in doing the Toshi instead of a Parnell knot? Apart from the usually tightening you would need to do for the parnell?

Spot the deliberate mistake trying to cut a haribito pattern to make it a two piece. Ignore the terrible starting knot, I now use two loops instead of three.

This is the first place I look when judging a string job - if somebody has the attention-to-detail to get that triple-loop sitting flat, they've normally done everything else right;).

I should have posted a warning for you mark, sorry. It was a drunk experiment on a test racquet.

I'm getting a fairly consistent 100Hz drop until the string settles. Which I think is 3lb give or take from reading the thread on monitoring string tension. 3lb sounds about right to me. 1lb each from overnight, the next 24h and from playing with it.

Does this seem right? I think so :)

Depends what tension you start from, but a 10% drop to the "steady state" tension is roughly in line with expectations.

I'd be interested to hear feedback on this frame shape. White strings by henrychenn, I did the yellow ones.

Henry's is much narrower at the top, mine looks more like the unstrung shape. Henry's played nicely but I've not tried the new strings yet.

It took alot of practice. When i first started, i remember the first badminton racket I did had alot of crossovers :(

My biggest pet peeves with racket stringing is probably a fully preweaving before tightening. I used to do this, but I found I made more errors and it took longer.

Duckie just drafted an email to mark asking why he would have strung a main string in B11 in A racquet o bought from him. Then I remembered I'd turned the grommets.... Silly.

Not my work but I have a racquet here where the string had gone through the grommets AND the top half of the frame. It's only rated for 18lb and was done at 25 I think. But was the damage caused by not changing grommets or do they split over time anyway? It's not going to be fun trying to string it, grommet savers and low tension or just plain don't bother!
