I am not aware that he got punished. I think BWF didn't know who to blame because it was complicated. I saw the games. Lin Dan basically got robbed by the line judge. The video was replayed and it proved that it was a wrong call. It was not difficult to understand why he lost the temper. The problem was then aggravated by the Korean couch, Li Mao who was a previous Chinese couch. We really didn't know what Li Mao said but it set off the incidence. I still remember vividly Zidane who was a soccer legend, was sent off in soccer world cup final in 2006 because he headbutted his opponent who humiliated him verbally. I agreed that this thing shouldn't happen but it did happen in sports under a very tense atmosphere because athletes are human being after all. Lin Dan has controlled his temper much better and he is much more mature over the last four years.
I think Li Mao said something like "he's just trying to have everything his way because he's the Chinese star"
yup, from what i read, the situation quite complex, and the tension is pretty hot. ahh, too bad there was this incident. fortunately, he didn't get some suspension. but i do agree that he became mature step by step. hope that KO 08 incident won't happen again. @granum: where did u get that statement?
I remember seeing something similar off a tv interview.. something about Li Mao insulting him and then the Chinese team.
LD's interview? bout this reason, i read in the thread, pretty many people doubt of it because the condition in the stadium that day. the stadium was full with people, and when the bad call happen for that last time, the crowd make a lot of noise. so many people doubt that LD can heard what LM insulted him, if LM really has insulted him. what do u think on this?
I have been reading LD interview lately, from http://badmintoncn.com/view-14320-1.html I will share with you guys some points that i could understand. In this interview, LD is hoping that his parents accompany & cheer for him during London 2012 OG. He said that it will always be wonderful & comfortable to have your parents present to spirit you up, regardless of how the result turn out to be.Surprisingly, LD parents only watch LD matches twice throughout his whole career so far.. About retirement, LD also points out that actually he has already achieved so many big titles, he might retire, however it is because his deep love to Badminton that give him the spirit to stand still & continue to enjoy & cherish this sport. He did not point out exactly when will he retire.
Judging by this translated excerpt, it's expected of him to retire after the World Championship in Guangzhou. That's the earliest and perhaps the most perfect timing I would say he will choose to hang his racket. It's sad because he is still in his late 20s and he could achieve so much more to raise his profile even more or at least try to compensate for what he did as part of the team orders for the sake of their fans. Now i hope assuming he could win the Gold in London, I hope IOC should consider giving wildcard entry to all winners so we could see another Lin Dan in action for Rio 2016.
thanks for the info, @licin. btw, heard rumours that XXF is now pregnant. is that true? anyone can confirm the truth please?
i read a comment somewhere. i don't want to spread rumours here, forgive me. but becoz i'm curious about it, then i try to find the truth. thanks
Wildcards generally applies to BWF sanctioned tournaments. IOC deems it mandatory to meet the qualifying round of any athlete regardless of past achievements. Ian Thorpe could have been given one but instead he had to qualify and he miss out (if his olympic swimming medals haul was considered, he should have been issued an automatic wildcard but not).
I think it's safe to say if Lin Dan fails to win the OG... he will certainly carry on playing at least until the World Championship in Guangzhou. His character wont allow him to bow out in such a manner, surely he wants to retire with his head held high at the top of the podium.
