. It appears that our Malaysian BCers are not confident for Zulfadli Zulkifli to be coached under Hendrawan. I thought Zul could learn more deceptive net play from Hendrawan. .
Note that this arrangement will only last till the end of Thomas Cup 2012. After that, we shall see if Zul agrees to join the BAM set-up permanently or returns back to KLRC for tournament sponsorship. Many INA clubs take credits and at the same time rewards these club players if any of their players emerge as World Champions or Olympics Champions under the National Team set-up. Of course, these players still pledge their allegiance to their clubs and will render their service whenever needed for inter-clubs tourneys like the Indonesian National Championships or Superliga Badminton. For example: Jaya Raya's (Pak Ciputra) owner is proud that his club is still the club that produces the most number of Olympics winners! In PB Djarum's website, it was still written that "Liem Swie King was the first player from PB Djarum to win an All-England title!" or "Alan Budikusuma was the first player to win an Olympics medal for Indonesia". So, I don't think there's anything wrong for KLRC to write "Zulfadli Zulkiffli is the first player from KLRC to win xxx or reach the top 10" in their website, if he does achieve that even after he joins BAM! As I wrote before, clubs and the national association should co-exist and work hand-in-hand to ensure success for the future of badminton in that country....and not to be rivals of one another as if if one exists, the other one must disappear.
It's for 2 months, not permanent ya. After Aviata Cup ends, Zul goes back to his normal training program. Even if long term, Zul is still KLRC player & also sponsored by/obligated to Forza. Sthing like Hafiz last time - he was with Nusa but 'loaned' to BAM, the club players have more freedom than BAM players in terms of rules and choice of tournaments to participate. BAM has not announced what is the program planned for the group of players in the 2016 TC/OG special squad - Zul is named as part of this group. Dont think they have thought of anything concrete yet. They will just call up Zul when there's centralised training, as like WJC, AJC time
Don't assume it will always be like this. Players do have good and bad days. It has to with the player's self-motivation and his desire to win. Then he will work hard to achieve his goals. Remember, LCW has also lost in R1 during his early days under BAM. He was later known to be just a "kampong champ". Maybe such losses and bad experience made him realise he had to work much harder to become what he is today.
I am still surprised on how these players like cwf, ckb, arif, ld and others are still not improving much. Don't BAM or any Associations have milestones for players? eg. 1000 smashes in one day and expect them to raise 10% every month? Wonder what will it takes to do or think of the KPIs? Or speed test, or drill test, or run test or physical test. If failed to improve, off you go.. don't waste time.
Maybe BAM use them as cheap sparring partners, that s why they plan for them to go nowhere, just like how SIN MS have been treated.
As stated before,the coaching team is different from LCw, Hafiz & WCH's time. They had Misbun, Li Mao. Now is wait and see if Arif, Iskandar, Loh WS will ever make it or will Zul overtake them.
Zulfadli Zulkifli enter to swiss open main draw thanks to LCW who withdrawn because of injury. However LCW made the right decision of withdrawal, ZZ has a chance to shine in Swiss GP... and for now ZZ cleared the 1st round and reached 2nd round... good luck for him... BOLEH~~
Zul has an excellent chance of reaching R16 and test Shon Wan Ho [13] for a place in the last 8. I think a R16 finish is a reasonable result for him, adding 2720 pts to his ranking pts and equaling his achievements at the end of last year in the India GPG. If he does manage to win, his ranking should also shoot up to just outside of the top 10 by next week.
ZZ's defeat yesterday proves that he needs more experience/exposure and dont underestimated unknown players from Europe. Not the end of the world la...losing can be good learning experience for ZZ. Train some more with BAM, discuss2 with Coach Hendrawan and let us see what he can do in Axiata Cup.
The alarming thing was ZZ looked so ordinary against someone who had limited skill and footwork. Makarski has an awkward, almost amateurish style, and ZZ was tricked into playing his hit and hope game. ZZ got caught out many times by clean winners and committed countless unforced errors. He ceded initiative from the start and was content to play on the defence. Yeah, this is a big lesson for him. Right now, he is miles behind Viktor Axelsen.
I was nearly asleep when I wrote that at 12:30am HKG time. Indeed...it should be top 100! Too bad, he lost to the European in 3 tight-sets.
