I heard Alan Thom mention him and Wang Wen did some badminton experiments long time ago, like footwork. Rumors says that Wang Wen had a lower back problem. Him and Alan devised a footwork technique and it worked.

yes, i remembered wang wen did had a lower back problem. I think he rarely warms up before a match & maybe the reason for that. What new footwork did he devised? is it way different from the conventional steps?

I think the original footwork (to the back corners) was like a pivot on one foot (non-dominant foot) and turn. The new footwork is slightly different. Instead of pivot on one foot, now you jump and turn in the air

well, not everyone can do that:D
wang wen is a very acrobatic player on court that i have seen.
I have seen him doing cart-barrel rowing on the court.
Turning in the air for him is nothing:p

Alan said people were amazed he was really fast on the court. he's always back to "center" and ready for the next shot.

I heard that Mr. Wen can collapse a plastic shuttle with his smash. I.e. make the cork face backwards after the contact.

I don't know if he can hit THAT hard, but he does have a very hard smash. Very smooth and somewhat underated.
