Hi all BCers. I was wondering how to increase one's swing speed when smashing or clearing. Any training methods?
Use a tennis racket and practice hitting tennis serves/badminton smashes on a tennis court with tennis balls. Will do wonders for your swing speed and wrist/arm power.
+1 Especially if you use too much wrist with the tennis serve... To increase swing speed, 2 things to focus on: 1. Loose grip at all times except at moment of strike. This will allow you to use finger power and also to force you to keep your muscles loose and relaxed at all times, except at strike. 2. You want increased speed on strike, not too soon before or too late after, so you have to suddenly accelerate your racket head into the shuttle a split second before strike. Think of it as whipping the racket head into the shuttle; leading with the elbow and transferring all that speed into a rapidly accelerating forearm into the racket head finally into the shuttle. Concentrate on achieving maximum speed and acceleration only at point of strike in order to properly focus all your power into that exact moment. The better and more consistent you can do this, the more efficient and powerful your stroke will be.
play with a head cover for a few rounds (The cover that only covers the head of the racquet duh ) after that your racquet will feel so light and your shots will be stronger. Also the tennis idea is great, works out your forearms and also gets you used to swinging a heavier racket fast. Next time you grab a BK superlight your head speed will be tripled haha
or you could play squash the ball comes back to you, unlike tennis the harder you hit, the faster it comes back, so you could test your reaction speed & splitstep as well also there is a fair amount of wrist usage in squash especially the back hand strokes.
