I surmise that if HKSAR had fielded Hu Yun instead, would the outcome be any different? Hu Yun's mature, steady and highly experienced hand versus the youthful exuberance and vitality of LDK.
Looking at the lineup, the only 'mature' player in the HK team for this match is Yip! Perhaps the team coach didn't think they had a big chance of winning and decided to field the younger guys to gain experience....
I think HK was surprised that they won the XD. Fielding WWK is to let him have experience in playing in big team events.
Vietnam, Switzerland and France have sealed their tie. Soon to be joined by Chinese Taipei. Michelle Lee is trying to salvage a match for Canada. Her opponent is quite spirited, though.
Agree with both of you, I was just speaking with the benefit of hindsight. Then it's possible CHN might rest Chen Long tomorrow to let DuPY or WZM experience the big occasion.
Sung Ji Hyun, one of my fave non-CHN players. Her first Superseries title at the Victor KOR Open was , to me, more impressive than the ones won by Tai TY, Intanon R and Juliane Schenk for she beat three CHN WS to it, namely, Jiang YJ, Han Li and Wang SX albeit in the absence of LXR and WYH.
YipPY is one non-Top 10 players I like to watch. Her very positive attitude, aggressive attacking play and unyielding spirit are remarkable. I esp enjoy seeing her jump-smash except that her follow-through after that is somewhat lacking. Another weakness is she often alternates between brilliant shots and mediocre ones. If she can be less harsh or critical of herself whenever she makes a mistake, keep calm and steady and be more consistent, I think she'll be a Top 10 player by now. She has openly said she idolizes Lin Dan and wants to emulate him. Maybe she should approach Lin Dan for some pointers, if possible.
This arena seems to be catching bug fever. Sung Ji Hyun almost ran out of the court trying to get rid of bugs.
Thank God. The slowest professional MD match in terms of hitting power and pace of movement just concluded with the Swiss beating Kazakhstan. Honestly, Sung Ji Hyun and Yippy at the adjoining court could hit harder .......
I think the problem with Yippy is that she's not sufficiently calm before the start of a new rally. Didn't gather her thought process - and thus the alternating good winners and bad mistakes.
Yes, not only that, she's in tears as shown on TV, oh dear. Someone comfort her, please. Victory and defeat is part and parcel in any competition. There is more to life than any sport or profession, the higher things I mean.
Line up INA vs CHN tomorrow: MD Hendra/Angga vs Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng WS Aprilia Yuswandari vs Li Xuerui MS Tommy Sugiarto vs Chen Long WD Greysia/Nitya vs Yu Yang/WXL XD Rijal/Debby vs Xu Chen/Ma Jin looks like INA resting main players and prepare for QF battle....
Indeed, INA doesn't field Lindaweni and Towi/Liliyana since INA has progressed into last eight. TPE tops group 1C after won over GER 5-0 and 3-2 against MAS yesterday.
