Wow he is really good - whats his rank :O. All throughout the video I wanted him to smash the shot at the lovely made sets of shuttles on the side of the court .
Don't think I have any. Wanted to record one at the last dutch open but a bit too early for my liking . Maybe next one Don't know anything about his playing history. Kim Young Man, the new dutch national coach, previously the polish national coach the last few years and not unsuccessfully. Wonder how they lured him away ... . And before that I assume, haven't seen it mentioned directly, coach at the IBF training centre in Saarbrücken, Germany (one news item only mentioned coaching in Germany, another mentioned Saarbrucken). Guess again ... Flying Doctor > "mr." Stephan
to be posted soon I'll finally be going home for the summer and be able to play in tournaments again! Will post a video of that. In the mean time I'll see if i can find a video that isn't too large.
Hi all, here is my video (6 min, only action): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SbVjZL2k6Q so, what should I improve, what is my major weakness? I'm on the camera side.
I really can't see the courtlines on the video eitherway, good rallies, good footwork! My advice would be to try and be more balanced at the forecourt with your body. You can see you're still moving quite a lot when you hit your netshots, try to be completely still when you play a shot, you'll be more accurate.
So, anyway, here's a short clip, as promised http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNEheMuFv28 The entire second set was just a tad too long, so from 0-0 tot 7-11 I just used the bets rallies, and then from 7-11 on it's the full match. Please, let me know what you think, Keep in mind I'm playing a guy who is just clearly a step ahead of me
Yeah the lines are like invisible to me aswell . I havn't watched the whole video - I will do soon , but it looks like you did your split-drop a bit high on a few of them , but can't be sure only watching parts of it. You looked good whilst playing - I wouldn't say you have a major weakness.
@ Jerby Great match! wish i could play like that i really do. One thing i noticed is that you "jump, *wait*, smash" i think you can be more efficient if you just go for it. *shrugs*
@nixem, you're good: good general shots, good serves, very good acceleration. So I've seen a lot of good things. Let me add a few more thing you should concentrate on: 1000% with Kriss, split step too high. Here's a few things from my coach point of view: -You're arriving the racquet too low at the net -Your body is too high all the time (maybe because of the split step but I'd say it's your net racket preparation) -try to jump more (higher) but stay stable on your feet (control) -you are slow at coming back on smash returns (watch out for your left leg sometimes it does some weird stuff) -need a bigger smash -need fluidity on overhead keep playing, it's promising, how old are you?
Thanks a lot, it's a great feedback I've got. I'll try to be not so airily by split-drop and to bend the knees a little more. I think, sometimes I smash jumping backwards and having momentum backwards. After it I'm even slower as usually in arriving the net. RacketlonCanada, I'm 30. I started training again since one year, after 4-5 years not playing at all, but I had not ever played better than now (i guess). Nevertheless, I want to improve my skills considerably - "to beat that guy from the A-team". Is that weird stuff at e.g. 2:10 that the left leg does (the heel goes outwards before the stroke)? It looks funny in snapshot, I'll pay attention to it, it's definitely redundant.
That's actually very true, thank you I loaded my video up, to check what you said....and already at the very first shot I do it
Yeah Jerby the Jump Smash was one thing. I also saw that , on a few points you were backing from the net , but that was only twice . The other point was most of your smashes were to your opponents body I know the tactical advantages of this but on this opponent wouldn't it have been easier to smash to the sides? Your defense is good , I am still in bad habits by defending in singles , by moving my leg then my racket it should be the other way around. Your backhand is also good , you caught your opponent out a few times with it . I liked the backhand smash finisher. Anyway I have only watched the video once , but wow your good By the way , what happened at 5:00 , did your racket go over the net?
Thanks for your response krisss Well, one thing to 'explain' the larger part is the height of the hall, which is something like 16m (and poorly lit) I had a lot of issues with my timing and a sense of where I was on court. Most of the time my smashes are more to the lines (smashing at the body can be useful but I normally don't do it too often...I just don't smash hard enough for that to work) The backing away from the net is a big problem though, I really have to be quicker on my feet, Hannes was also quite good at the net (do you see how high he takes the shuttle every time? I wish I could do that it made playing him a lot more difficult) At 5:00 he obstructed my netkill, but he got it back though, but went out after it touched me, minor discussion
...although....some coaches advocate a short pause before hitting the smash. (I haven't seen the video yet since it's blocked from here so I might be getting the wrong end of the stick )
