Wow it must have been great to play these current pros. No need to worry about the score. Another benefit of age is that excuses hold more weight: You can claim that the sunshine affected your cataracts.
I think the problem is I was still in awe having this opportunity to play against these young pros. Busanan can be tricky with her shots.
here's me, nearside, playing a squash player. comments welcome, I know I'm slow and watch the shuttle too much though!
Looks your opponent seems to be languishing at the rear tram lines most of the time. Just about every time you drop or play the net you win the point. However I would say that you need to lower your centre of gravity, use a split step to start your footwork in a more dynamic way, keep your legs bend and lower and try to be more explosive particularly in the first step. Commit to the lunges a bit more so you can maintain your balance (use of the non racket hand helps here too, especially when recovering from deep lunges). Your recovery after shots needs a bit of work too but that pretty much will go hand in hand with making the footwork better. When you are pushed to the round the head corner you haven't even recovered back in to the camera shot before your opponent has played his shot and thus get caught out with his cross court shots. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up5M-mirAcI
split step - it's missing. Adding it will help with your speed - especially if you get lower as well. By that I mean moving around the court and waiting on the shuttle with your knees bent more.
Since this I've had hamstring, back, and foot problems. Got a small surgery (foot) lined up for November. This is the current state of things: I think I have got rid of, or really reduced the double-action on overheads, so that's good. (I'm far-side)
amleto you should relax your play... you play like you're made of wood, sort of. no fluidity in movent, especially in the arms. all your strokes are rigid and tense, seem loose and slow... can't tell much from this angle though. i sortta like how the other guy plays ) although he seems to play like 40% of his capacity, maybe he's just a little lazy to apply speed, maybe he just doesn't really want to play with you and don't care about the result because he knows he's out of your league (no offence).
I really enjoy slow mo videos! My brother used his phone to record, the quality isn't great but you can see the movement of me during a warm up. I had to trim the video, its original a 10-15 minutes warm up but it becomes an hour long video, I took the first 15 minutes it shows technique well. p.s. I'm aware my timing for my smashes were all over the place, I can work on that, hahaha
^ drew: That you in grey? Very good strokes and footwork. You've improved a lot. Which phone is this that has high speed recording?
my arm technique must be good if it has escaped criticism duckfeet will be concentrating on his footwork before another video. it's painful to watch now :'(
Thanks for the comment! Yes it is, I'm really pleased with my backhand strokes I'm able to hit deep backhand clears This is just a warm up but when I have game play I'll upload it >.< hahaha We were using a Samsung Galaxy Note 2. When you record in slow mo the resolutions drops a lot, to 480p (I think)
Thanks for the comment I'll bear it in mind when I play, but this was a warm up so I don't focus so much on that, in a game situation its important as well as when I'm training
I have an SG3...can't wait for the Jelly Bean 4.3 update which hopefully has the high speed video recording for my phone. Next thing for your b/h is to practice drops from the deep b/h corner, to have some variation.
wouldn't that be for hardware of the phone?? I was thinking about that today, to practice backhand drops, I understand
I was hoping that someone here might have taken video of the weekend tournament at Edison. I usually play one tournament a year with plastic mavis 300. For those of you that have seen me smash a feather shuttle, you know how I can turn those plastic ones quite literally into bullets.
