Former Greats Unite to Bring Changes to Indonesian Badminton

    Ami Afriatni | May 28, 2012

In an unprecedented move, a group of the country’s badminton legends have united to voice their concern over the swift fall of one of Indonesia’s most popular sports.

After surprise exits in the quarterfinals of the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup, 26 local badminton greats joined forces and have petitioned the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) to stop the rot. The stars offered advice on how to halt the country’s downward spiral and demanded that PBSI officials listen to them.

The assembled greats include former shuttlers who are now PBSI officials, such as national training camp chief Christian Hadinata and doubles coach Richard Mainaky, as well as current star Taufik Hidayat.

“I’m still on the PBSI advisory board. I’ve been giving advice, but they’ve haven’t taken any of it,” said Rudy Hartono, a four-time Thomas Cup and eight-time All England winner. “I hope now they will listen. If they cannot do their jobs well, they should just step down from the PBSI.”

Last week, Indonesia’s men and women both lost 3-2 to Japan in the quarterfinals of the world team championships in Wuhan, China. Former world champion Joko Suprianto called it “the darkest day in Indonesian badminton.”

Only mixed doubles duo Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir have won major tournaments this year, jeopardizing Indonesia’s run of earning at least one badminton gold medal since it became a full Olympic sport in 1992.

China, meanwhile, affirmed its dominance of world badminton by winning the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup. The Chinese men equaled Indonesia’s record of taking five successive Thomas Cup titles.

Firda all the way... Based on Uber Cup performance... Firda has the fighting spirit, which is critical in a big match, like Olympic Games....

just imagine if INA has the wisdom and foresight to retain the great TXH.
We are probably celebrating INA's 16th or 17th TC cup and a few UC cup as well

HARD Slap in the face of PBSI made by Richard Mainaky: Tolyn's Success is without PBSI Support
    (http://www.tempo.co/read/news/2012/05/28/099406747/Richard-Ganda-Campuran-Tanpa-Dukungan-PBSI)
Ouch, i think this is the sharpest critics toward PBSI lately, that richard considered PBSI contribute ZERO to the success of Tolyn (XD team). If this being said by someone outside or someone not success maybe it still be debatable. But, coming from Richard, i believe this show SERIOUS PROBLEM with PBSI.

What Richard said it is correct...under Djoko' adminitration, Fuad from Logistic and M.Ferryansyah ( from nowhere) but a lot to say in Binpres so Mr.Hadi Nasri and Waketu Mr.Sabar which he supervises on training department HAS NO SAY and these to ( Fuad and Ferry) which do not even knw the rules of Badminton intervenes and they do make decision where and which players to go to tournaments...
Especially Ferry who brought Li Mao and considers himself like GURU and VERY VERY DAMN ARROGANT...even he yelled at INA coaches during Thomas -Uber qualification for the rules he even did not know...
Thats why PBSI so screwed up!! how come on earth person like Ferry has no position in PBSI ( as far as I know, even he is given as Staff Ahli,it makes me puke as he is no badminton knowledge at all)...
Basically these 2 dominated PBSI RIGHT now....these 2 has to go for sure..
Even Ferry's son had a chance to train, sleep and eat at Pelatnas...whats the FCUK!!!!who the hell he thinks he is!! so Pelatnas has no value and glamour, his son even got his friend, a rapper wanna be to stay and play there too....even his son has no manner during his stay...thats ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ..I even sound so emotional..I have not seen Rudi Hartono and others were so emotional and upset during Conferense @ Century hotel.....
No more to say!! THIS IS WORST PBSI MANAGEMENT WE HAVE EVER SEEN!!!

Don't get too emotional bro! PBSI, like BAM, is full of these ppl. Sad to say but Pak Djoko has to bear most of the responsibility for all these problems.

Some guy even commented that INA & MAS might have to be contented as no 5 and no 6 as these are primarily caused by our genes.

I sure hope that is not the case. Surely not with the talents that we have seen emerging from the clubs.

The problem is how to harness these talents into potential world-beater. The current administration at PBSI surely will not be able to transform our talented pool of players.

These comments by Richard Mainaky really nailed the problem happening in PBSI right now....too many ppl who are just not suited to run PBSI's various departments:

Who the heck is Ferry and Fuad anyway....and why Pak Djoko trusted them so much?

Ferry supplied things to Joko when he was a army General so Ferry hires Li Mao as a courtesy to Joko...Fuad's father used to help Joko in his career..here go you...McDonald's Happy meal combo!....you cant separate any of them...If Joko stays then these 2 will stay as WAKETUM!! that would be a REAL nightmare!!!I do hope that they have shameness!!if not!! Bye Bye INA badminton, I can guarantee you that!if tha happens..all club owner should be united and pull out their players from PBSI...

I agree. I hope Pak Djoko can accept the responsibility and resigns. That will enable PBSI to get rid of Ferry and Fuad. Or at least some ppl can talk sense to Pak Djoko of all the negative consequences that these 2 guys have brought into PBSI.

There needs to be a radical reform as what cobalt mentioned in the other thread on BAM. Without a radical reform, we are guaranteed that PBSI will continue to regress.

Apalagi jelang Olimpiade. Kami minta maaf kalau kali ini gagal."

Legends urge PBSI to be more responsible over the failure

Twenty Indonesian shuttler heroes and heroines expressed their sadness on Monday over the team’s worst ever failure in the recent Thomas and Uber Cup, demanding that the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) act to save badminton in Indonesia.

“The failure was really shocking and obviously disappointed most Indonesians, including former shuttlers like ourselves. It is hard to admit that Indonesia, which used to be a superior country [in badminton], has fallen this low,” said former shuttler Joko Supriyanto at a media gathering in the Hotel Atlet Century in Central Jakarta on Monday.

The Indonesian Thomas Cup team failed to reach the event’s semifinals for the first time ever in the team’s history last week, after losing 3-0 to Japan in the Thomas and Uber Cup 2012 in Wuhan, China. Unfortunately, the Uber Cup team also experienced the same shocking defeat.

“Amid such a situation, we urge the PBSI to be more responsible by conducting a serious evaluation of the failure and announce the results of the evaluation to the public.

“We believe that poor preparation mostly played a part in the Indonesian team’s loss. Therefore, we request the PBSI fix its unfavorable system used to manage Indonesian badminton … PBSI has produced improper policies because of not having ‘the right man in the right place’,” added Joko, who has helped the nation win three consecutive Thomas Cup titles in 1994, 1996 and 1998.

Joko further added that the former Indonesian shuttlers’ community also urged the PBSI to evaluate the overall performance of foreign coach Li Mao of China following his unfruitful touch to the nation’s singles shuttlers.

“Indonesian badminton will face tougher challenges in the future. Therefore, we are suggesting that all Indonesian badminton officials appoint a better leader, who can creatively answer those challenges, in November’s chief election,” he said.

Legend Rudy Hartono said that the gathering, organized spontaneously by the former shuttlers, was “part of our efforts to help fix the broken Indonesian badminton team”.

“I really hope that [Indonesian badminton] can still survive … but by having this kind of situation, I truly think that the end is near,” said Rudy, who led the nation in winning four consecutive Thomas Cup titles in 1970, 1973, 1976 and 1979.

Former shuttler Ivana Lie said that she would immediately deliver the results of Monday’s gathering
    to PBSI.

“Afterward, we plan to take the issue to the House of Representatives’ Commission X on youth affairs and sports, as well as to the Youth and Sports Ministry,” said the 1982’s Asian Games gold medalist, who is currently a member of ministerial staff.

Besides the three heroes and heroines, other former shuttlers who attended Monday’s meeting included three-time All England champion in men’s singles Lim Swie King and Barcelona Olympians Susi Susanti in women’s singles and Alan Budikusuma in men’s singles.

Mantan-Mantan Pemain Nasional Serukan 7 Tuntutan pada PBSI

    Jakarta
PBSI.

Ex National Players call for 7 Claim on PBSI

Jakarta - The worst team in the Thomas-Uber Indonesia in Wuhan, China, forcing a number of former and badminton players gathered. They issued seven demands to the PB. PBSI.

Located at the Century Hotel, Jakarta, Monday (5/28/2012) The ex-athletes and athletes across the generations was a meeting attended by Rudi Hartono, Liem Swe King, Icuk Sugiarto, Alan Budikusuma, Susi Susanti, Ivana Lie, Joko Supriyanto, Christian Hadinata, Richard Mainaky, Trikus Harjanto, Marvel Mainaky, Luluk Hadianto, Bambang Supriyanto, Sarwendah Kusumawadini, Imelda Wiguna, Retno Kustia, Elizabeth Latif, Ratih Kumaladani, Lani Teo, Haryanto Arbi and Taufik Hidayat.

Seven items addressed to their untutan PB. PBSI is as follows:

    A. PB demanding. PBSI liable to be seriously and thoroughly evaluate the cause of the failure. Accompanied by concrete steps and delivered to the public.

    2. Various observers for failure evaluation team Thomas / Uber Cup team ketidakkompakan we like, no motivation, less physical and so on, is due to poor preparation. This occurs because of the big problems in the management body of PB. PBSI, the occurrence of overlapping (overlapping) authority that has long occurred and allowed to continue. So many PB policy. PBSI is not appropriate because it is done by people who are not within its authority.

    3. In the remaining period of stewardship, we urge the PB. PBSI to restore the authority of each field according to the main tasks, and functions and focus on preparing athletes for the London Olympics as well as possible.

    4. Asked the PB. PBSI to review the presence of foreign coaches in the national training. It has been almost two years of its existence but not seen any progress as expected achievement. Even its existence tends to undermine the existing system.

    5. With the decline of our badminton achievements, challenges ahead perbulutangkisan heavier. We therefore urge the board PBSI voters in the province as a national consultation in November, look for the chairman of the figures that can address challenges and make the creative breakthroughs.

    6. We urge the Board of Trustees more actively carry out their duties and play an active role to criticize the performance of central and local PBSI achievement for the advancement of Indonesian badminton.

    7. On this occasion we also appeal to the President, Government and the Commission of the House for more attention to the sport of badminton. In order for Indonesia badminton achievement can be returned victorious and became the nation of Indonesia perfume scented fragrance all over the world.

Indonesia team was eliminated in the quarterfinals in both the Thomas and Uber Cup 2012. Specifically for men's team, only this time in the history of its participation, the troops "Red and White" was unable to penetrate the last four
