Personally, I don't have that feeling here! But I do feel it in some local HK discussion groups!
Those web masters just wanna entice people to post more and more (SPAM) and gain sort of popularity of their site! And that is stupid!

maybe there could be some sort of rating system....where mods are able to highlight credible posts and give out credibility points to posters? but again some things can be subjective...

Just because your post count is higher than mine mean that your accusation about me being 'being on medication' hold any water!

Speaking of water, I need to go get some to swallow some pills. :D

Readers, please take note that this is all written in light heartedness as well as another example about high post count. Cheers. :D

I think postings made in Marketplace and Lounge forums don't add to post count. Give it a try;)

Ok so that's your final word kwun? No avatars and no signatures? I'm just asking by the way don't get me wrong, I'm not all that worried either way :). While I wouldn't mind avatars I can certainly live without them.

What are the chances of a vegetarian asking for a big plate of juicy tender loin steak?

I know it looks like signatures are definitely out of the question. But avatars? Doesn't look good for them either but I'd like to hear the "no" that's all :p.

Avatars aren't that good either - takes focus away from the post count. ;)

avatars already exist... click on the user's public profile!!!!!! :)

i personally think everything in the public profile is good enough.
we're all educated people, we can click around a bit and figure our way around... eventually...

But in my opinion that is completely missing the point of an avatar. A visual representation of each user. A visual representation should be the first thing you see. Not something you have to go searching for.

    going down a slippery slope....

after i have read and re-read the comments in this thread, i have narrowed down to two issues that we are looking at:

    1) a way for member to identify whether a user's is trustworthy or not, or perhaps a better more generic description is their karma.

    2) a way for member to express their identity.

for 1) i am going to experiment with a feature that will let a member rate other member's posts by giving out karma points. you can either give a positive or negative karma point to a member's post and their karma rating will be affected accordingly.

the number of karma points you can give depends on your own karma points, your post count and however long you have been in the forum. you only have a limited number of points so use it wisely.

as i said, this is an experiment, i want to know if such a system is feasible in a community the size of BC. if it works, great, if it fails for whatever reason, it will be turned off.

i really want to see genuine award of karma and i don't want this to turn the forum into a popularity contest.

    so how does it work?

you will an icon like this: [IMG] on each post. click on that and it will pop up a little window that allow you to award a +ve or -ve karma to a post. you can also add a comment if you like. the user will be able to see your comment, so make sure it is constructive.

    and that's it.
