And they should be conferred with - - Tan Sri title for Datuk Lee Chong Wei, therefore 'Tan Sri Datuk Lee Chong Wei - Datuk title for Koo Kien Keat & Tan Boon Heong, plus PJK & AMN for their great achievement being World's No. 1. chris-ccc, It is not a surprise MAS holding WR No.1 positions. We are badminton powerhouse. Our gov had invested lots of money in this sports. I would said It Is A SURPRISE if Austalian player hold the No.1 position.
A player or pair can be ranked No.1 because of their ranking points gained . This is correct. A player or pair can be ranked No.1 because of their ranking points gained. Therefore, a player or pair can be ranked No.1 even though they have not won any title, big or small. Looking for such an example, but still haven't found one yet. .
No, chris.......they cant be WR 1 without even 1 title in hand......just cant accumulate enough points to be WR 1........ But, they can be WR 1 with some titles in hand, and still lost too many times to lower rank pairs.............This is a WR 1 without quality....sadly
Theoretically, without winning even a single title, KKK/TBH can be World No.1, if . Theoretically, without winning even a single title, KKK/TBH can be World No.1, if; 1. KKK/TBH plays in all tournaments that gives ranking points; including SS, GP Gold, GP, etc,...... and finished up as runners-up. and, 2. No one pair dominates in winning many titles. That is to say tournaments titles are won equally by many different pairs. Join us at our BadmintonCentral PAW Games, and you will see how the No.1 ranked position can be achieved. .
What is more important WR#1 or titles ... major titles?? Some are saying that Malaysian fans are still not satisfied despite having 2 WR1s in LCW and KKK/TBH. Ok, lets put aside all emotions and sentiments, and examine the above statement. What is it that define greatness when it comes to badminton? Being WR1 or having a collection of major titles? Please ... dont answer straight away ... take some time and think a little. Being WR1 (with no majors) or having a host of big trophies? Take a look at this bunch ... Yang Yang, The Thing, Liem Swie King, Rudy Hartono, Morten Frost, Park Joo Bong ... they are all legends in the game, right? Do they have major trophies? Maybe when it comes to Malaysian shuttlers ... we should have a different set of expectations? Ok fair deal then ... lets look at Malaysia specifically. Lets start with the coaches ... we hired the best out there both past and present. Yes? Our facilities are 2nd to none. Yes? When it comes to rewards, we are pretty much up there. As such, despite all these investments all we have to show is 2 WR1s and a Sea Games Women gold, no Olympic gold, zero WCs, very very few AEs and it has been ages since we won the TC. Personally, I dont know .... I guess it comes down to personal standards.
You are correct, but technically, they don't need to play in ALL tournaments. Just 10 SS tournaments (or 9 SS and 1 major) will do. Finish runners-up in all these tournaments and hope all their closest rivals are inconsistent. However, in reality, this is unlikely because if you can manage to enter the finals for so many tournaments, you are bound to get lucky in a few.
No brainer. Titles are much more important. (I'm serious.) Malaysian badminton sucks. (Not so serious.)
Only the best 10 of their 14 tournaments count towards their points total. But you can see that if the Koreans just take part in one more tournament (reasonably big, like SS) and have a consistent performance, then they should be No 1. So, to correct you, it is not because the MAS pair played in more tournaments than the rest, it is because the KOR pair played less than 10 tournaments. (Even if INA and DEN pair played 14 tournaments last year, it is no guarantee that they can overhaul KKK/TBH.) MAS average per tournament - 7478 points KOR average per tournament - 7675 points
For 14 tournaments, they can drop off their worst 4 performances . That's correct too. Was thinking that playing at 14 tournaments, they can drop off their worst 4 performances. But playing in 10 or less, they can't. .
Ranking points is one way. But the % of titles won(no of tournments won/no of tournaments participated) for the year can also be used. As I've said to Jasonmarc, in 2009 KKK/TBH was no 3 or no 4 in terms of percentage. No 3 if count total tournaments GP & above, no 4 if just SS titles. In 2009, LYD/JJS were tops in % of winning titles while Fu/Cai won both the major titles - AE & WC. There was a debate on this among the INA fans & our ardent Korea fan. You're anticipating KKK/TBH will play less than the projected 13 or 14 tournaments?(already listed in pg 3) This includes the non BWF sanctioned (no WR pts) like Commonwealth & AG. Cos if it's just less by 1 or 2 tourneys from 2009, I think it makes little difference .
Credit should be given to Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen . 2010 All-England Tournament Mens Doubles: Credit should be given to Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen, the pair who defeated KKK/TBH (1st round) and all other pairs (in all other rounds) to become the Mens Doubles Champions. In a way this allowed KKK/TBH to save face because they were defeated by the eventual champions of the tournament. .
Be champions or be knocked-out in 1st Round . So maybe they could be champions or be knocked-out in 1st Round again in their next tournament? .
Their trend dont work that way . The yoyo of Msia MD are Fuzzy - lose, lose, lose, go QF, Semi, lose some more.
Unfortunately, the two yoyos of Malaysia lose more than they go semis... whereas KKK/TBH go semis more than they lose...
