I've got a random old racquet that I'm going to restring but I've got no info on what the frame can handle. It's sounds metallic unlike the hollow Carlton that split on me. 26lbs should be ok? That's probably the crosses rather than pushing for 25x27. Seems a shame to potentially break it if it could be of use to some one and it's currently my spare for doubles.

Same applies for cracked frames I suppose. Thanks.

    What is the model?

Max 23 lbs (without knowing the model)

Agreed - if you don't know the brand, don't push it.

It depends not only on the model but also the condition. If there is "section-loss" (as we would call it in civil engineering) or any small cracks, even very fine ones, I would be wary about stringing it.

But if the condition is fine, most isometric frame carbon racquets would comfortably take 23lb.

It's taken 24 on the crosses. Random old (battered) slazenger silhouette.

If I'm not in danger of losing an eye I think if it can't do the tension I want then what good is it... still don't want to be wasteful though.

It was fairly heavily distorted from a bad string job around 24lbs so does that show it's weak, or that it can handle it well? I expect there isn't an answer to this without trying it sadly.

Thanks for replies, I suspect I'd better play it safe.

I presume if I stay to string too high it will just go bang and not give me any warning / chance to back off and redo it looser.

yup. once it goes, it is a goner.

it is like asking a submarine captain how deep his sub can dive.

Or ask your wife's permission for one more night of badminton per week. Know the limit, not stretching it.

FYI - the Slazenger Silhouette is a fragile racquet. I've not strung one before but I have seen several broken many years ago when they were popular - think there was a big discount on them in Makro about 15-20 years ago so everyone got one thinking they were a good deal for a carbon racquet. I seem to remember seeing the exposed shaft and thinking that that looked really really thin...

Great replies. No comment. I had to give her a child so in a few years I've got an excuse to play more ;)

Oh :( it's certainly very light. I'll probably unweave this zymax then and go for the cheap stuff. I had decided on 23*25 top down as a compromise. Only 1lb higher than before.

I think I remember it being 40-60 quid. Shaft still feels quite stiff so any info you have would be appreciated! Why 665length though, so annoying.

It came out less bent than previous job. So sprung a leak but the hull survived? It's a nice string setup for me so I'll use it, then restring at 16lbs and leave it in the gym at work for the newbs to use.

22lbs. It's written on the cone under the overgrip :)

Edit: NO smiley! Customer wants 25lbs. Going to have to do into my own stash of zymax 62.
