    Hi there,

Chen Gang was appointed as the Polish Badminton Team singles coach.

I know he was a World Junior Champion back in 1994 and he was top Chinese player to app. year 2000.

I talk to him during the recent friendly match between Poland and England. Although his English could be a little better he seems to be very friendly and open person.

Could you please write more about him and his carrier.

    Thanks

    M

Chen Gang was a bit behind Sun Jun in level of play. Very stable player. His style of play was not particularly outstanding in any one aspect. If he is the coach, I can imagine the traning would be very technical.

His world junior championship was the same year as Peter Gade & wong choon han.

It seems the other 2 got more success than him

Yes. In the photos in post #3, he is the younger coach and the older one is Kim Young Man from Korea. Chen Gang now coaches on the Korean team. Kim doesn't.

I was under the impression that there were two players with this name and that one was a doubles player. Ah, yes. There was a doubles player named Chen Kang who was AE runner-up in 1993. In 1994, tournamentsoftware has Chen, Kang and Chen ~, Gang listed.

Chen Kang was the partner of Chen Hongyong, World Championships MD silver medallists in 1989 in Jakarta. The only all-China MD final in a major competition - extremely rare event.

Chen Gang played singles. Not a bad player, but during his time, China went into a slump in men's section, and the Thomas Cup was dominated by Indonesia.

What a coincidence. I had an idea of writing a piece on long forgotten China Men singles players who never made the trip to fame. Among them Chen Changjie , Wu Wen kai, Liu Jun, Chen Gang, Yu Lizhi, Luo Yigang. But lack of information on them.

Chen Gang I knew in the late 90s as a world junior champion. Contemporary of Gade, Wong Ch, Chen Hong and Xia. In fact Chen Gang was push to the front in 1997 had a few good results and then dissappeared. 2 years later Chen Hong and Xia broke through.

    Can anyone shed light.

I believe Chen Kang (陳 康 ) and his partner are the no 2 doubles behind LYB at that time.

One interesting story from the article regarding Chen Gang and Lin Dan, during the 2001 Chinese National (九运会), Cheng Gang was over 1 year retired from the national team, he beat Bao Chunlai and Ji Xin Peng (2000 Olympic MS gold winner) in earlier rounds and Chen Hong in quarter final which did not make the
National Team look good since Chen Gang is no longer in National Team and has not been training.

During 2002 Denmark Open, Lin Dan told Chen Gang (who was representing some Denmark Club) that the night before semi-final of the 2001 Chinese National, the Chinese coaches told Lin Dan that he had to win against Chen Gang, otherwise LD would be kicked out of the national team.

On semi-final of the 2001 Chinese National, LD's coach believe that Chen Gang
would not have the stamina, so the strategy for LD is to move CG around.
But in the 2nd set, Chen Gang was leading 9-5, LD changed the strategy and
speed up the game with attack, Chen Gang did not gain any more point and
lost to LD 9:15. He was impressed with LD's acting/thinking independently.
