I go to a university in socal and im in a badminton club there.
all is good except a lot of the club members dont have any birds!
its fine when we have club hours since the club provides birds but during drop-in hours or when we go to gyms, they dont have birds...
so the other person always have to fish out birds for them.
their reasoning is "birds are expensive...we are poor college kids...i dont work..." etc
which are probably true, but its just not fair to the rest of the people.

    any solutions/thoughts?

Bring out the plastic birds! They're cheap and one will last the whole night! Plus those cheapo students can't tell the difference between feather and plastic! :p :D

Why don't you tell them birds are only free during club hours. And that these sessions are for rich kids and those with jobs.

What if you started a birdie pool? Everyone contributes X amount and you go buy the birds. Anyone who doesn't contribute has to bring a bird to play or can't play with your group.

I.E. walk off the court whenever someone who didn't contribute and has no birdie goes on or kick them off.

It's extreme. It's snobby (though you can make exceptions for guests). Lots of people will whine and complain saying you have no right etc etc. But if it really bothers enough people, I think it would work and even if it doesn't, the people who chipped in can play happily knowing they're playing with people who share the cost.

    theoretically, it's a great idea.
All the bird hackers will love the pool. Those who hit properly will learn to hate it because they're paying more than they normally would to compensate for the hackers.

Those who are too cheap or stubborn to follow one rule, will find ways around other rules you make up for them.

Keep it simple BYOB means BYOB.
at a house party, BYOB is no beer, no drink.
at a badminton club, BYOB is no birds, no play.

Over here, winner stays on the court, challengers provide birds. Just keep winning, and say no bird, no play.

It is fair. I didn't mean challenger provides all the birds. If the bird dies in the middle of the match, of course you would take turns providing birds. It's just the 1st bird must be provided by the challenger. Better win to save up birds then.

at my club, each person brings a bird once you walk into the court, the winners get to keep left over bird(s)

If a person doesn't bring a bird, someone will tell kim/her and if it happen again, people will start to avoid playing with that person

What do you mean? people just turn up and ask random people for shuttle cocks and people give them to them??? This makes no sense at all, am i missing something? Just rent them plastic birds for a dollar or sell them feathers or tell them to f*%k right off. I don't get it:confused:

I sometimes wonder why many of the students can afford to study in terribly expensive private universities but bring no birds to court:mad:
