Hey im DeathSticks, dam i wanna get a new user name ;O.

Anyway, i can't remember if i made one of these intro thread when i first joined.

    But anyway!
Im from San jose and i attend Yerbua Buena High School.
Currently a Sophmore. I don't have any intentions in joining badminton this year cause of the 200$ price tag on joining sports :(.

I did join my school's badminton team in freshman year.
It was actually my first time playing badminton, i was realy bad when i first played, not that bad though!
Me and my partner played doubles, and we first landed varsity 1, but ended the season at 3rd position.
With 1 season of practice and matches me and my partner won a total of 6 or 7 games out of 18. It wasent that bad, i mean it was my first year after all.

After all that, its 6 months since i've started badminton.
And i've become one of the best at my school.
But this year our school is gunna bomb every match, so people in css B league can count Yerbua Buena as a auto win haha.

I learned how to play badminton by watching people and world tournys
and i only recived coaching 2-4 times.

Place i've been to play badminton are:
Bintang/BBC/Smash City and many high schools' open gyms

And i like to play tennis to!
I started playing tennis before badminton actualy
i use badminton techniques in tennis alot :X

    What do ya think? :)

    Welcome..

..to BCDF, Deathsticks!:)..It's good to be playing baddy in your current generation. 10-15 yrs ago, baddy places in the U.S. or even in CA were scarce. Now, you guys, esp. in NorCal have the best resources. Keep on playing and hope the best for your team's goal.
Anyway, keep on coming back & enjoy surfing in here!;)

heh, then I must be in like NorNorCal cuz I got nothing up here besides the kind of racquets you see at Big 5 or Sports Chalet/Authority

They Should make the bay area MidCal or something XD

No no no I was just thinking about wristy smashes, and seeing a guy jump up to smash a lob and then using a badminton wrist-y smash and then hearing a loud crack :crying:

but I don't know much about tennis so i'm sure you're fine

    Mid or Central??..

    ..pick your favorite..;)
So, you're going to UC Davis, eh?? I heard there is quite a population of Asian students..
Actually for the apportionment, the NorCal region comprises of the beautiful Bay Area all the way up to the Oregon/Cal border. Then CenCal comprises of Bakersfield area all the way up to the San Jose/Gilroy border. And then the SoCal or LoCal region comprising of the Bakersfield/Ventura Co. area all the way down to the Mexico/U.S. border.

Heh yea UCD has a lot of Asians indeed, and thus, there's a high competition for the badminton courts too >.<

I didn't even know we had a central California. Nearly 18 years of living in this wondrous state and all I knew was SoCal and NorCal. Haha I only found out last year that "hella" was a NorCal only colloquialism. Til then, I thought EVERYONE said it >.<

thanks for the info tho! Incidentally where are you from?

Well, UCD has a badminton club that competes, and our Activities and Recreation Center has a multipurpose room with capabilities for 6 full size courts, and our Hickey Gym (don't laugh at the name) has capabilities for 8 courts. The pavilion used to be capable of 6, but it was just remodeled so I have no clue about that now.

..where am i from in California? Well, to put it mildly, i'm from the hot, humid, most of the times sunny, once in a while wildfire-ravaged and akhem..........."conservative" SoCal/LoCal region (to be specific, in the east L.A. county region)..;)
..indeed, they should open up a facility up north near the Sacramento area.
Btw, here's a thread which has a link showing the baddy facilities in the Bay Area/NorCal..BBC in Dublin is one, the other closer facility to Davis is GGBC in Emeryville.

Deathsticks! Let's play badminton together :]

Even though transportation fee and stuff are more expensive, you should still join the team just for the fun of it! Plus, more experience in badminton!

One of my teachers said that it is actually illegal for schools to collect money for classes, sports, etc. The reason is because it is a public school; it is suppose to be paid for by the government. Not sure if this is completely true though :/ But of course, the budget cuts killed everything.

Hey! Did you move to UCD right out of high school (4 year University) or did you transfer from a community college?

I still want to see that smash of yours that hits 4 - 6 inches away from the service line. Don't think I've forgotten that post of yours. Haha.

    On this..

..from what i know & encountered, yes, usually clubs/social groups which gather at a public school aren't allowed to meet, let alone charge people for playing, unless the school or the entity in charge of the premise gives permission to do so.
Sometimes those clubs/social groups are not part of the school/premise and would need to apply some kind of paperwork to be allowed.
Partly, it has to do with the profit/non-profit issue; which means certain clubs/social group could charge people for activities while using the public facility.

However, i've also encountered scenarios where the schools/colleges, themselves, actually open up their facility and actually charge people (students or non-students) for activities.

Oh there's plenty of hope. I mean I got a 2130 on the SATI, 4.2 unweighted GPA, and a 720 and 680 on my SATIIs. My friend tho, he had a 3.6 unweighted and like a 1700 on his SAT I. And I know others who had lower than him but still got in, and others who got higher grades than me but weren't accepted. Are you a senior this year? If you ever come by, let me know and I'll say hi, maybe play a bit, though I'm not the greatest player.
