Unfortunately Tai Tzu Ying was drawn to meet Wang Yihan (#2) in Round 2 and she lost to the higher ranked player 16-21, 14-21 in 35 min.

I think Tzu Ying should look better with shorter hair. :p

Most of the Taiwanese players are sponsored by 3 corporations in Taiwan (2 banks and 1 power company). I think recently a 4th corporation
    started to sponsor some players.

They are also sponsored by different manufactures like Yonex and Victor.

Some of the double pairs don't practice together regularly like Cheng Wen-Hsing/Chien Yu-Chin and CWH/Chen Hong-Ling.

Most of players also go to school (college and high school). Read from newspaper that Cheng Shao-Chieh had to change her flights a few times since she didn't expect to go that far in Singapore Open, she was planning on going back home after her first round match to prepare for the oral exam the following week on her graduate degree.

Tai, ranked 24th in the world by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), won the match 21-16, 19-21, 21-6 against the Japanese eighth seed, ranked 19th in the world.

A day earlier, the 17-year-old upset fifth-seeded Eriko Hirose of Japan in straight sets to advance to the final of the US$120,000 event.

Tai's best showing before this was at the Li-Ning Singapore Open Super Series 2010, in which she reached the women's singles final before losing to Saina Nehwal of India.

Tai has always had the makings of one of Taiwan's top badminton prospects.

She qualified for the country's top badminton division as a sixth grader, the fastest riser since Cheng Shao-chieh, who was seeded second in U.S. Open women's singles but lost in the quarterfinals.

She also represented Taiwan in the 2009 East Asian Games and at the biennial Sudirman Cup in 2011.

If Tai can keep her ranking high over the next year (and her U.S. Open win will help) she will earn a spot at the London Olympics.

Qualifiers for the London Games will be chosen based on their Badminton World Federation rankings as of May 3, 2012.

Her father, however, is in no rush to see his daughter compete for an Olympic medal.

"I told her that she was not playing for me, that we weren't at all in a rush. Even if she can't go to London next year, she can always work toward the 2016 or 2020 games," her father said.

In the other U.S. Open match in which Taiwanese players were competing for a title, Chen Hung-ling and Cheng Wen-hsing lost in the mixed doubles final to Lee Yong Dae and Ha Jung Eun of Korea 21-19, 21-13. (By Lung Po-an and Jamie Wang) ENDITEM/ls[/TD]

The emergence of TTY and Rat are making the WS scene mush more interesting at this young age. They will have many years to challenge the Chinese might.

..pressure on China side to do what?..
If looking at team events, i'm sure we all know what CHN's Women's team is capable of..
If looking at individual events, then yes, CHN probably will need to find another youngster or two in RI and TTY's age range to compete with those 2 ladies..
The way i see it, realistically TTY and RI won't be ready for next yr's OG..they're chance will be in 2016 and between now and 2016 (5 yrs) it's still a while to go and anything can happen..

    - Do you think it's going to repeat again? My hunch says no..(their veterans like Lee HJ and Lee KW i believe have retired and imo, they were the reasons they won last yr's UC)..
    - I just checked on the database, sorry didn't follow the Sudirman Cup, and i only notice their 2 losses were on the WS side. But remember, in UC event, there are 2 WDs played and 3 WS. How many nations really have the overall strength to match CHN other than the Koreans??.. Thailand? CHN TPE?..
    - Who are included in THA's best women's lineup team?

Agreed, only korean can do better. Chinese ladies are still a class above the rest in the team event. They do yoyos in individuals. ;)

TTY in Taiwanese TV news after winning US Open. Her dad and coach were interviewed. Some tidbit, she found hole on the
pillow she travels/sleeps with before the final, she thought it was bad omen.

..actually i was cheering for Lu Lan (limsy please don't beat me up) and thought it would be deja vu all over again for Tai TY like last yr when she lost in the QF...also, actually wasn't planning to record it, esp. after Lu Lan had match pt in hand..but decided to record it anyway and just so happen Tai TY made a stunning come back and surprised everyone by winning the last 5 pts; i thought the close line call near the end might've affected Lu Lan somewhat..
