Guys and girls, Years ago i met an old man at a baddy court, and he told me that for years he observed and concluded that once a badminton player got married their achievement on the court will go down hill. He named many MS players (which i cant remember now) and went on about the time of the marriage and the last time of them getting their hands on a thropy. Is this true or just an old man myth??
Im sure age is an important factor. But many of them got married in their 20s as well. That old man also pointed out that those who did not get married can still perform well even they are actually older than those who got married. Im guessing, there can also be many extra commitments thay they have to do beside badminton.
I suppose once married, they'll need a stable job for stable income, for family or home expenses etc. So, badminton becomes less of a career...
Fu HF is married, has a son(ask the China fans how old), well, you know very well what his achievements are. Cai Yun apparently just got married/registered in April 2010
No way! I just searched... his son is 2-3 yrs old now! Wow... there goes my theory! But still, in China famous top notch badminton players are like celebrities/rock stars in Western countries. Much like famous soccer players in England. Along with endorsements and such, I'm sure they don't have to take up another career just to make a living like in Canada for example.
PG is married with 2 kids, 2nd baby just born late last year. But for PG he didnt get married until late 20s, how old is his eldest? LOL, yeah. But normally the players dont get married until late 20s, early 30s when they are nearing retirement or retired.
OK CY/FHF is a proof myth is not proven, any other example? For PG is actually one of the prrof that the myth is correct
Yes, but forget PH has been around for like a decade! Other than TH, that is a very long time for any physical sports, where fitness levels peak in mid to late 20's and then fall off after that. But having said that, PG is still amazingly ranked in top 10 given his grand uncle status.
3 months has passed since we have this thread, and guess what LD is married. Will this be the start of his downfall???
If he is new to this relationship, maybe but he has been with XXF for years. I doubt that's gonna affect him in anyway, some say that they are only registered and the wedding ceremony will be right after the Olympics in 2012.
In Asian culture, although they are registered, some still dont stay together or live as husband & wife until after the wedding ceremony. Some it's because they havent done the religious rites, thus not considered husband & wife in terms of religion. So, LD & XXF...
LD is already on the downside of his marvelous career, it is just that the oppostions are not taking advantage of that, no star players (like a young TH, PG, LCW or another young LD) emerging and the present same old players are worse of than LD...LD target is still OLY12 and we know he is very focus and discipline, I can't see marriage affects his motivation and quest for the last gold that he wants before signing of Icleing, you are smart this time and I concur with you...that fellow has been with XXF for 7 long years (yawn) and he probably has done the deeds so many times that just being married would not wear him out Eagle....don't know if LD/XXF are religious or what-nots...don't need to live together as hubby and wife lah, this is not Mao's China LD follow army rules, salute
I do not believe marriage will affect players performance as well. Peter Gade, Lin Dan, Cai Yun, Fu Hai Feng are all good examples. Anyway, Lin Dan performance is still very amazing after 7 years of relationship with XXF.
