Hello, I would like to know for badminton shooting, do any of you use the custom white balance function? If so, I want to know if there is any inexpensive white balance gadget out there to customize the white balance, so that I don't need to adjust it every single time in lightroom or photoshop. I googled around and found the following: 1) Digital grey card 18% 2) white balance lens cap Did anyone use any of above and what's the brand you can recommand? Or if there is any other way to do that? Thank you very much!
less expensive is white sheet of printer or copier paper , or even better is special paper to ink photo printer . its white and it isn't transparent .
Possible answer(s).. Hi Ricky, the guys had somewhat touched, sniffed, chewed, bit and swallowed on this issue, in the thread below: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39911
Hi Ctjcad, Thanks for the info!!!!! Now, I wonder which grey card I should get. There are so many in the market. I just don't know which to choose. By the way, ctcad, which DSLR camera and lens you are using for badminton? Just curious. Thanks again.
Hi sprachrokrke, Thanks for the info. I read somewhere that printer paper can't produce the good result when compare with grey card or expodisc. Expodisc just too expensive and it's out of my consideration. Thanks again.
i am using d700 with my combo badminton lens 35-70 and 70-200 both 2.8 ( i strongly recommend lens with build in motor ) white sheet is enough to set proper wb , but exposure must be lowered by 2.5 EV to have correct exposure . grey card is ready to use out of the box . In badminton setting correct exposure is easy , because light environment doesn't change , its enough to set it once and later you can slightly correct exposure during developing raw files . here you have my pics from badmitnon match between Poland and England iso 1600 , 1/500 , 2.8 or 3.2 http://picasaweb.google.pl/epuzer/Pl_eng
Nice picture!!! However, I'm not too familiar with exposure. Are you talking about the metering? The scale that you see for the + and -?
thx oldhand , but the most important thing is that we win !!!!! Polsih national team has now two coaches from Korea and we can see results >>>> fast exactly i am talking about metereing , at the begining of tournament i make few shots of player face to determine amount of light and when i found optimal value of iso , aperture and time i am ready to take pictures , i always make pictures i raw mode , because I can later easy correct or set white balance and exposure .
hi sprachrohke, i'm fairly new to dlsr photography. is it a standard to lower the exposure by 2.5 EV when using white sheet?
Hmm... ...*gulp*, my camera told me that if i ever tell anyone abt which camera i'm using, it'll cease operating.......so, i'll just say it here, it's the canen dee fowty....lenses??..a variety, but mostly primes (cheaper and a bit sharper/better quality than a zoom lens). *Btw, the ENG player should be Rajiv Ouseph.
Sprachronhrke, good photo & the wb is also good. thanks for your sharing. Do you mean to set -2.5EV when taking the wb reference photo? BTW, just out of my curiosity, the net on your photo http://picasaweb.google.pl/epuzer/Pl_eng#5280811699055947906 is very clear. Are all the photos show similar situations. Compare to other cameras, some of them can perform like this http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1038504&postcount=34. I don't know the reason. I wonder why the net can be filtered out?
>>>Sealman every camera metering system based on gray 18 % but its only stupid automate , when you use white card you to measure light , you should lower exposure about 2,5 EV with black card you can rise exposure about 2.5 EV , when using gray card leave it as it is . its a tip for metering in strange places in strange condition , one should only find any black or white subject turn on spot metering ,measure and make correction . make some shots and check how it works >> fast when i am indoor and have mixed light , some from window and some artificial its a good practice to use grey card to preset the WB . shooting in raw is essential because you can correct far more your pics then jpg in raw you control every step of process but it takes TIME to have jpg from raw . >>AChan net in my pictures was in dark colour in your link is white , and its only difference , in some cases net is out deep of field and it make it almost invisible .
I don't think it is pure DOF problem. I don't know what the mechanism is but I noticed there is a big different between the photos taken by Canon 30D & 1DMKIII, in condition with the same lens, distance, ISO, aperture & shutter speed. I intent to check the performance of D700 in this area.
maybe difference is in nature DOF from this two cameras they has another size of matrix , and it change focal lenght of lens and also DOF , as i know the 30d has 1,6 and 1D has 1,3 magnifier , and it maybe produce another looking bokeh .
