The man spoils it by taking us away from the picture with his gaze. It would be better if he had eye contact with the girl. The top part can be eliminated.

I quite agree and I prefer the brownish tones than just B&W as they are more pleasing to the eyes and less contrasting.

I would have thought the main subject is that young man at the stall and he should be 'manified' at the right time when his eyes meet yours. Unfortunately he's turned his head away and not kept his eyes at the lady.
As such the distracting space above, and the cluttered part on the left of the stall should be eliminated to give full concentration on that man.

Maybe not showing too many steps by cropping the bottom part and not even showing the girl's feet would lead one's eyes to the main object - the man.

(My comments are for fun only. :D)

    Maybe..just maybe..

..the man saw Cheung was standing there, with his camera gear all squared up and ready to press the button and he..."shyly" turned his face away...ah well..:(

I actually like that the man is looking away.
There he is in front of the small stall that is his livlihood, his world, his ball-and-chain. Yet he is looking wistfully away at what we don't know. Not even a passing girl disturbs his reverie. Where he is looking and what he is thinking adds mystery to the shot. Nice pic Cheung.:)

PS why does it look like there is a pile of dismembered feet at one corner of the stall?

Not exactly Chris. I took the shot at Canton road Tsim Sha Tsui. In fact I was expecting some Mainland Chinese tourist walking around with their newly bought LV, Gucci, Prada bags. I need that shot for the newspaper. But suddenly that man and woman turned out in front of me. Therefore, I took that photo for fun without any hesitation.:D

Thanks for the link! I didn't know there was a term to describe that kinda photography! I just simply call it "snap shot" taking in the past. :)

Thank you george! The lens that I used was in fact a "home made" tilt lens. It was made of a CZJ 80mm f2.8 and a tilt mount (kwun has it too!).
You can't really see the real power out of it at the moment. Coz that photo was shot through a thick glass. But I have to say the quality of this East German made 80mm lens was much much better than I thought!

which tilt mount are you using? is it one of those hartblei MF->35mm adaptors with a fixed angle of tilt or can you adjust the amount tilt?

The one that I use was ordered from arax photo. http://araxfoto.com/accessories/tilt/

It allows Pentacon Six lenses to fit major 35mm slr/dslr cameras with a tilt mechanism. It can be tilted from 0 to 8 degree.

For more information about Pentacon Six lenses and cameras. You can visit http://www.pentaconsix.com/
