A domestic social league sounds promising. All the best! One question for the organiser: Why close a game at 24 points? If you're having qualified umpires, why not close the game at 30 as is usual?
Hi Oldhand, that’s a good question! You are right. According to the BWF simplified rule, the game usually ends at the 30[SUP]th[/SUP] point if a 29-all situation occurs. However, we decided to bring forward the last point from 30[SUP]th[/SUP] to 24[SUP]th[/SUP] point to reduce the risk of a match overrun between consecutive matches on the same court. We took on a more conservative approach in this case to ensure pleasant experience for all the teams participating in this league. We may revise the last point to 30[SUP]th[/SUP] point after our first season. I hope this answers your question. J
Yes, it sure does. Thank you I hope this league flourishes. And there is no reason why it shouldn't. We have a lot of badminton fanatics in Singapore.
Hi , correct me if I am wrong. There 14 days to play the league. if the team play on all 14 days, the team need to pay $55/$60 x 14 matches ? I guess it is still affordable if $60/12 players = $5 per player. I sully support this league. Who Knows. one of the double will beat the national double !!
Hi KCQuek, your calculation is nearly correct. Just that $55 excludes GST. It comes out to about $4.90 per player for 1 match if the team has a Safra Member. Beating the national doubles was not really the intention but will definitely worth celebrating if it happens. The main aim is to provide a platform for amateur players seeking to improve their skills through playing with other amateur players. We hope this healthy competition will lead to better experience of play, more friendships form and bringing overall Singapore badminton standard of play to a higher level. We know there are a lot of badminton players out there. We are looking forward to meet all. Do come down to have a look even if you are not taking part in the free trial!!
Hi extremenanopowe, That's a good idea actually!! There will be a free trial on the 11th Apr 2012 at 7pm and 8.30pm at Tampines Safra. Why not form a team to participate and experience the differences?
Hi Wilfred, our LIGEL club has interest to send one team to join the league. Just to clarify that for non-safra members, the cost is $60 plus 7% gst? Then it is $64.2. If by average 6 players attending ( each can play 2 sets), the cost is almost $11. We think it is pretty expensive. Is there any way to reduce the cost? Another question, is it possible to hold the match at central area in stead of most east of Singapore? Most of our players stay at west. Thanks. David
Hi David, Thank you for your enquiry. Our price is inclusive of the supply of Carlton Shuttlecocks (Tournament series), Umpire and Court. We try to provide a convenient platform for teams to come together to compete, improve their skills and techniques. Moreover, each team will only require one Safra member to entitle the whole team to members' rate of $55 (excluding gst). This Safra member need not be present for all matches. We strongly encourage your team to participate in the FREE trial on this Wednesday, 11th Apr 2012, 7pm at Tampines Safra. Please call 9238 2277 to sign up for the trial. Yes! We will be looking at hosting badminton leagues in central area. Certain locations are not ready (under renovation or other reason/s) at the moment. We will post more information once ready.
SGBadminton Listened, Understood and Responded... We had several feedbacks on the timing. Many teams could not make it on time for the 7pm match. Hence, we will be changing the timing from 7-10pm to 8-11pm. With this change, we had to start the league slightly later then intended. The start of the league will begin on 2nd May 2012 instead of 25th Apr 2012. SGBadminton will arrange for one more free trial session on the 25th Apr 2012 from 7pm to 10pm. Teams interested pls call 9238 2277 to register.
