off topic: ..how do you mean by playing in 9 matches a day, even playing in 3 events/categories?..are you thinking of playing in the Qualification rd., R64 & R32 per event in one day, which i don't think is possible or has ever occurred?..
Ok, now I'm really confused. I distinctly remember singles players having to play 3 qualification matches in one day. 32 qualifiers for 4 places. 60 players. Apparently, they must have already changed the system. 16 qualifiers for 4 places. 44 players. Maximum 2 matches a day. LOL, I haven't noticed it . I wonder whether it's feasible to start the matches on Monday to allow for more entries?
..yeah, there you go..It depends.. Generally, most BWF tournaments will last between 5-6 days (start on Tuesday). If there are many entries, usually they will have 1 full day of Qualification Rd. The QF Rds. themselves will have different number of entries. And because of this variance, it's hard to say how many matches, in a QF Rd., a player or pair will play from one tourney to another. So, it's not so much because the system has changed. As for matches starting on Monday and last for 7 days, the only other exception where this would occur is usually during World Championships and Olympics. But those tourneys don't have any QF Rd as they start with R32 (in all 5 events).
Are you sure they didn't change the system? Take Djarum Indonesia Super Series for example. In 2008, there were 55 entrants for MS, so 27 qualifiers (max is 32) played 3 matches in a single day for 4 places to join the other 28. In 2009, there were 66 entrants, but only 16 of them played 2 matches during the qualifications to reach the round of 32. It was likewise for the tournament in 2010, and all others that I've seen recently. Which means that they had reduced the field from 60 to only 44. They probably use the current rankings to determine who are eligible to participate. Pushing the qualifiers to Monday with 2 matches a day will increase the number of participants to 4 x 4 x 4 + 28 = 92. That will be good if the number of professional players increase with the influx of so much new money. The Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open seeems to be slightly different in its scheduling of matches. The BWF website indicated this year's tournament as lasting 7 days. For an SS tournament. Perhaps they are trying something new. The system in 2008 was to play the qualifications based on a maximum of 32 players, so to end with 4, it required 3 matches on the qualification day. If there are less than 32 but more than 16, then some byes were awarded. There were 21 in the 2008 tournament probably because 6 of them withdrew. Nowadays, even if there are more than 16 players for qualification, only 16 are eligible, I think. So there are only 2 knockout rounds. They did away with the first round. But I'm not sure. I still remember the poor players slogging out with 3 matches per category in a single day. Ha ha, didn't know that the Queen Elizabeth Stadium was so small. I suppose floor space is a luxury there. Oh, because I mentioned all the photos and videos you uploaded. Misaki is in a number of them, so I guess it's appropriate to thank you in this thread. Didn't you know the players you were photographing ? Or is someone impersonating your namesake at webshots and youtube ?

But perhaps it only applies for the SS tourneys. For GP/GPG level tourneys, i think they still allow more than 16 players in the Qualif. Rd. LOL, I think you're really good at checking the BWF rules. I don't even know where to look. I was amazed at how fast you came back with BWF rulings the last time. But I'm sure they must have changed it, since I haven't seen 3 qualification rounds in a very long time. I had thought that the number of entrants had been dwindling.
