SEA Games : Greysia/Meiliana withdrawn from SEA Games squad.

(Jakarta, 11/28/2011) Due to an injury that has not been recovered, the women's doubles pair Greysia Polii / Meiliana Jauhari avoid appears in the SEA Games which will take place next month. With the withdrawal of Greysia / Meiliana, then the position of this pair is replaced by Anneke Feinya Agustine / Nitya Maheswari Krishinda.

It is said Maria Fransisca, SEA Games team managers. "The position of Greysia / Meiliana replaced by Anneke / Nitya. This is caused by injury Greysia who was still in recovering phase, "she said.

Meanwhile Greysia Polii also confirmed the cancellation of the news she and Meli joined thecore team of SEA Games team. "We decided to step down due to play in the SEA Games is a big responsibility to Indonesia. We do not want to play games such responsibility. While it's a necessary time to train and restore power after the injury that I experienced. We realize that our capabilities have not been back to normal again, "said Greysia which is currently located in Paris.

Greysia some time ago suffered an injury to his right hand when falling while playing in the finals Taipei Grand Prix Gold Open 2011.
[SUP]Since the injury, the appearance of pairs Greysia / Meiliana not maximized.[/SUP]

In the last three tournaments that they follow the Superseries Japan Open, Denmark Open and French Open Superseries Premier Superseries 2011, this pair has not appeared in top form and should be stopped in the early rounds.

Meanwhile, Anneke Feinya Agustine / Nitya Maheswari Krishinda increasingly showed increased graphics performance. This pair managed to penetrate to the Denmark Open Superseries Premierquarterfinal before finally defeated by world number one from China, Wang Xiaoli / Yu Yang. Additionally Anneke / Nitya also managed to become a finalist Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold held in Samarinda some time ago.

"Who would not want to enter the Indonesian team and play in front of the public itself? Certainly is an honor for us. But I, Meli and coaches are very heartened by the decision has been taken.
Anneke / Nitya also present in consistent performance and there is no harm in giving them the opportunity "added Greysia.

IS INA the only country to send all its top players (barring injury)? I guess it's national pride that comes ahead of the HK SS. Any other teams announced yet?

Gold medals galore for INA for sure.

Thailand is strong in the Women's Section, I expect a battle royale between THA-INA for the women's team and WS, XD and possibly WD.

The question is if THA will send their strongest team or concentrate on the HKSS.

The SEA Games bigwigs should make the badminton competition an U-23 event to create an opportunity for player development. There'll still be tons of good players attending.

Don't think any of the top players from MAS have been selected for the SEA games. You can strike MAS off ALL your lists :D

RI targets success in two new sports
Niken Prathivi, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Fri, 11/04/2011 9:46 AM

You may think that badminton and weightlifting are the sports in which Indonesia will enjoy gold medal success at the 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, but two newly approved sports, vovinam and pétanque, may serve to change that.

Vovinam, an original martial art from Vietnam, is a new sport to Indonesia but the SEA Games squad, comprising of 18 men and nine women, will aim for six out of the 14 gold medals on offer in performance (art) and battle categories during the biennial Games.

“We’re strong enough in performance events, because the basic movement in vovinam is similar with our pencak silat [martial art],” team manager Muhammad Siddiq told The Jakarta Post on Thursday, adding that all Indonesian vovinam athletes are former pencak silat fighters.

Siddiq said that a year after being introduced to the sport, Indonesia brought home two gold medals from performance events at the Laos Asian Indoor Games in 2009. “Last month, we achieved five gold medals, five silvers and seven bronzes in the Southeast Asian Championships in Cambodia.”

Despite this confidence, Siddiq admitted that his athletes still had problems with battle events. “They need to work on leg-grappling techniques against opponent’s neck or above, because that is most important in winning a fight.”
