IS INA the only country to send all its top players (barring injury)? I guess it's national pride that comes ahead of the HK SS. Any other teams announced yet? Gold medals galore for INA for sure.
SEA Games #SquadTeam : -MS- Taufik Hidayat Simon Santoso Dionysius Hayom Tommy Sugiarto -WS- Lindaweny Firdasari Bellaetrix Maria Febe -MD- Kido/Hendra Ahsan/Bona -WD- Aneke/Nitya Vita M/Nadya Melati -XD- Tontowi/Liliyana Rijal/Debby #SquadIndividual Taufik, Simon, Linda, Firda, Kido/Hendra, Ahsan/Bona, Aneke/Nitya, Vita/Nadya, Tontowi/Liliyana, Rijal/Debby
hope that INA could clean sweep the gold medal like in 2007, but i think this time WS might goes to THA.
Thailand is strong in the Women's Section, I expect a battle royale between THA-INA for the women's team and WS, XD and possibly WD.
The question is if THA will send their strongest team or concentrate on the HKSS. The SEA Games bigwigs should make the badminton competition an U-23 event to create an opportunity for player development. There'll still be tons of good players attending.
Men's Team : INA or MAS Women's Team : THA or INA Men's Single : INA or MAS or THA or VIE Women's Single : THA or INA or SIN Men's Double : INA or MAS or THA Women's Double : INA or MAS or THA or SIN Mixed Double : INA or THA
Don't think any of the top players from MAS have been selected for the SEA games. You can strike MAS off ALL your lists
RI targets success in two new sports Niken Prathivi, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Fri, 11/04/2011 9:46 AM You may think that badminton and weightlifting are the sports in which Indonesia will enjoy gold medal success at the 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, but two newly approved sports, vovinam and pétanque, may serve to change that. Vovinam, an original martial art from Vietnam, is a new sport to Indonesia but the SEA Games squad, comprising of 18 men and nine women, will aim for six out of the 14 gold medals on offer in performance (art) and battle categories during the biennial Games. “We’re strong enough in performance events, because the basic movement in vovinam is similar with our pencak silat [martial art],” team manager Muhammad Siddiq told The Jakarta Post on Thursday, adding that all Indonesian vovinam athletes are former pencak silat fighters. Siddiq said that a year after being introduced to the sport, Indonesia brought home two gold medals from performance events at the Laos Asian Indoor Games in 2009. “Last month, we achieved five gold medals, five silvers and seven bronzes in the Southeast Asian Championships in Cambodia.” Despite this confidence, Siddiq admitted that his athletes still had problems with battle events. “They need to work on leg-grappling techniques against opponent’s neck or above, because that is most important in winning a fight.” ------------------------------------------------ Read more : http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2011/11/04/ri-targets-success-two-new-sports.html
