I just recently got my wise tension head. I've strung 1 racket with it using a bg65 ti. All was ok until today when I tried to restring my SW 35 with a BG66 UM. The gripper doesnt seem to hold the string properly as it keeps on slipping when I tension it.

Here is a video: Sorry if the video is upside down.

The lower gripper plate (with respect to the video) has a pin sticking out the back which limits the gripper closure. Look at the back of the gripper assy and you'll see a large hole - there's a hex bolt buried in there, and the pin buts up against it. Turning the screw all the way in will allow the grippers to close all the way.

If you still get slippage after this, you can take the gripper assy apart and knock the pin out completely.

I just took the screw out - gives very slightly more closure. Still wasn't enough for Z62, so the pin came out.

No, not with the diabolo. I did some test pulls when I first got mine and even without the diabolo I managed three on the same patch of string before any gripper marks appeared. Seeing as strings are only pulled once each, there will be no problem. If it can do Zymax 62 at 30 lbs, it can do anything.

    reviving this thread

I've started having problems with string literally slipping out of the gripper plates when tensioning (making you think the string broke while tensioning but it really just slips off).
Which is surprising because it even happened with bg65 at low tensions and I used to be able to string bg80/VS850 at around 30 lbs with no problem

I've never had the hex bolt in it so it always was tight
Now I'm thinking of removing the pin but I don't have enough space between my turntable and my wise to put the diabolo so I assume that technically it would damage the string

Does anyone have a solution for this?

I had an unusual and similar problem to yours a year ago.

String always slipped and get damaged when I do the 6th-8th cross.

I checked the string gripper, cannot find any problem.

I checked the diablo, cannot find any problem. (using the diablo is ideal, but I don't think it is necessary if the level difference between the racket surface and the gripper is not too much)

I checked the grommets of rackets, cannot find any problem.

I checked the the string comes into contact with the mounts etc when pulling, cannot find any problem.

At last, I mount the racket reversed on the north and south poles and the string no longer gets damaged, everything works perfectly again.

Until this day I still cannot identify the problem exactly. So, try if that works... sometimes things don't make alot of sense... lol

You could try the old "business card" solution (folded card in the grippers), but that tends to fail after 50 pulls or so.

I suggest you take the pin out, but don't destroy it in the process - a slipping gripper is useless, and I've seen non-diabolo WISEs pull 44 lb on badminton string without breaking it.
