Oh, thru the grapevine... you know, badminton fanatics in Vancouver are a pretty tight knit bunch. Iirc, there was talk of it being located in the warehouse area around No. 6 Road and Bridgeport in Richmond, but no suitable existing building with 33 foot high ceilings were found... hence a completely new building from the ground up on an island... i just remembered the wrong island...
tight knit bunch indeed, the rumour of no. 6 road and Bridgeport was not I. The rumours of new centres come and go and that rumour would not have been me. Hope to see you here and stay tuned for updates. www.facebook.com/badminton.vancouver
Kwun, as you can see from the facebook page: www.facebook.com/badminton.vancouver , the flooring is bio mechanically engineered to provide the ideal friction co-efficient, ideal shock absorption and energy return. I'll leave it at that for tonight. Everything was really thought of with a "badminton first" mentality.
wow kwun, you are quite astute to find that beach volleyball place. let me just say theres will be rolled out rubber mat. It will be a permnanet flooring that is bio-mechanically engineered.
Wow! The location is almost perfect. I am more curious about the flooring, especially the shock absorption aspect of it. Lighting would be the next concern. I might stop my VRC membership if I like what I see.
How many courts available? Also are you planning on expanding to Burnaby (North) or North Van? Wouldn't mind something closer to home.
do reveal these new things as i am sure all the Vancouverites will be very interested in this new development. i have created the new forum for you. keep it populated.
given those clue, then the only possibility in my mind would be a suspended wood flooring with court mats on top. similar to OCBC type flooring which is absolutely the best type of flooring for badminton and also be international tournament worthy as well. i hope i am not disappointed.
For sure... I'll have to drop by tomorrow before work then as I work 10-6. I hope Badminton Vancouver won't mind the spy cam shots... That or I'll have to drive real fast...
thank you Kwun! BTW, where are all the Vancouverites on badmintoncentral? Lets get a good buzz so we can get some more details on this new development!
kwun, I have actually explored this option. I have in fact explored most flooring options. As well as enhancing the playing experience, I wanted the floor to be pleasing to look at. There are no court mats to be found at Badminton Vancouver. Let your imaginations run wild
Until the city of Richmond sells me Mitchell island so that I can correct this technicality, I'm afraid Mitchell island will technically be Richmond. Although most people assume Mitchell island is part of Vancouver due to its much closer proximity to Vancouver than the Richmond side. As I've said earlier, the sign can only be seen from Vancouver.
CanucksDynasty, there are no courts available, we're still in the contruction phase... All kidding aside, the facility is 18,000 square feet, but who says there's only badminton courts.
in situ rubber over the layers of foundation of wood and coir? Is there a deeper base strata of sand and coal mixture?
