    Wang Shixian seeks self-redemption

    Full story: http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/china/2011-09/15/c_131140976.htm

    Excerpts:

"I am obviously not in my best form now. My mindset is not as good as before, so I have to try my best in every match," said Wang, who got a haircut before the China Masters.

"I hope that I can gradually improve myself both mentally and physically, and I think the change of hairstyle is the beginning," added Wang.

...Ever since her unexpected straight games loss to Schenk on the opening day of the Sudirman Cup in May, Wang has come under intense scrutiny from the Chinese media.

"Since the Sudirman Cup, I began to think about changing myself," said Wang, "As I grow up, my opponents are also improving. I should have my unique skill, then I can outclass my opponents."

"I am not in the advantage no matter whom I play with. As long as I can gain something from the match, that's enough. I really hope I can regain my best form as soon as possible."

Changing the hairstyle will improve herself mentally and physically.:confused: Sounds like it's the idea of some feng shui master. :)

Feng shui master LOL :D But something like that is also quite common in Indonesia, some Indonesians believe that cutting their hair means throwing away their bad luck :D I sure wish the best for WSX, I believe she still has a lot more to give ;)

The day Wang Shixian acquires an attacking smash as one of her killer shots,in addition to her masterful stroke play and defensive skills, she will be the true world number one again for a long time to come.

Ji Hyun stuns world No. 2
    Thursday, October 27, 2011

    http://www.bwfbadminton.org/news_item.aspx?id=55028

    Excerpt:

Sung Ji Hyun saved one match point in the opening round of the US$200,000 Yonex French Open, before beating world No. 2 Wang Shixian (below), on Wednesday.

The unseeded South Korean, who has lost her previous two matches against her Chinese opponent, looked to be heading towards another loss when she was thrashed 21-9 in the opening game. She managed to regroup in the second game, but was staring at elimination when the Malaysia Open, All England and China Masters winner served for the tie at 21-20.

Ji Hyun held her nerve to win back serve and then took the next two points to level the match. The decider was just as close with both players fighting tooth and nail to gain an advantage in the 10[SUP]th[/SUP] OSIM BWF World Superseries tournament of the year.

In the end, it was the South Korean who came out on top, winning 9-21, 23-21, 21-19 in 73 minutes. Her reward is a second round meeting with World Championship silver medallist Cheng Shao Chieh of Taipei.

Need of the hour: WSX V2.0

WSX needs to re-invent herself, and rejig her game.

It's not working for her. Most of the top players have sorted her out. If she goes on like this, she'll just lose confidence in herself, and from there it's just a downward spiral.

She had reduced her game to a sort of no-frills, bare essentials form. The danger was always that her opponents would recognise the weaknesses of this one-dimensional approach, and yank her around. That day is now here.

There is no doubt that WSX is a class player, still way above the crowd. But that is not good enough. Ever since her win at the All England, she's been fairly pedestrian, and in some instances, completely toothless. That should send warning bells ringing all through her body. WSX is known to be a tigress, but what use is a toothless tigress?!? Her win at the China Masters was not a clear indication, because it came against mostly home players.

I'm sure her coaches and support team know what is needed to be done. I just hope they do it quickly. WSX is too good a player to fade away so quickly; that would be a shame, and a loss to all of us.

Her game needs a bit of retooling (a la WYH). Top players know she can't hurt them with her current style.... except their ears :p
